Default Belt pulley came OFF while I was driving?

I was doing about 65 mph on the freeway when all of sudden a cloud of white smoke came from under the hood. I pulll over and pop the hood open to find the new belt I had recently replace is destroyed. This was Friday and it was about 5 O'clock in the evening. Anyway, somehow the nut on one of the pulley and came off and the pulley fail out causing the belt to be destroyed. How could this happened?

Joking aside, you really need to invest in a tube of loctite thread locker It'll prevent those little nuisances from happening again.

I agree with you on the loctite. I replaced the old belt with a new one today. Also making sure every bolts and nuts is tight. As far torqueing it, I just made sure they are really tight.

Buy a torque wrench PLEASE. Also, a factory service manual wouldnt hurt. If you need the torque specs, I can look em up for you

Thats not advice at all. And yes, it may actually hurt. If you dont know the answer, dont make a random post. I dont mean to be such an ***, but Ive just seen so many of your posts serve absolutely no purpose. No offense or anything, but they just seem like "+1" posts to me

Sorry, but no. If the factory put torque specs on certain bolts then they are important. Read how many times the word torque is used in this how-to do the 60k service on a Mitsubishi..

Oh, my bad, I misread the post. I was thinking that aliga was torqueing down something that he would soon redo, something like a headgasket (which should only be torqued down on the final install). But if you are finalizing the install, you should DEFINITELY torque down as much as you can. Buy a torque wrench and get at it.

Hey man, well which bolts are you referring to exactly? When changing your drive belt, you should not be removing any pulleys or anything, just loosening the belt tension via the belt tensioner. Now if you did remove the belt tensioner, the torque on that is a measly 15 ft/lbs. If thats not the one, then describe the onethat you need
