Just ordered the little drain thing. I have a fumoto valve to replace of the drain plug when I do the oil change next... so this should be very mess free. I probably won't use the hose, rather just screw that in then put the drain pan below and open the valve.
The threaded oil funnel seems gimmicky to me, plus I already have a ton of all shaped funnels. That would be another thing to clean.
Does one need to change an oring when you remove the metal bottom part of the filter housing? IE: Or a crush ring?

I have used the funnel for multiple changes it works great ! Ordered the drain tool but it was out of stock, so I passed . Mazda uses a similar system ( recessed filter) and the filter drain plug is waste if time. The fumoto valve is great idea, For anyone doing their own oil changes this oil filter wrench is very sturdy( forged steel) http://www.ctatools.com/index.php?ro...roduct_id=1216
