Tire & Wheel Protection - Worth It?
I am likely picking up my NX in the next week or so and was curious on everyones take with the Tire & Wheel Protection offer by Lexus. I found out a pretty good amount of info from my Lexus Dealership in New Orleans, LA that I have shared below. My biggest issue is if the run flats are generally able to repaired or have to be replaced?
Let me know your thoughts as I keep going back and forth on if it would be worth it. Appreciate it!

I don't know, I was wink wink told that when you come close to the ware line you should wink wink drive into a construction zone to wink wink use it. this is what the guy selling it to us told us over at Lexus Newport, lol. with the wink wink nose scratch.
Lol...$1400 for this crap? Maybe if you intend to crack all your rims and tires. The rims aren't forged or anything special at all
And curb rash isn't even included? Lol
Stock rims are cheap...lots of factory rims on sale cheap on FB marketplace and elsewhere too.
when was last time you cracked 4 rims and blowout the tires? That's only way this would be worth it

I've never found it worth it. $1400? $1600? (mm, bet that works out to only $xx/mo added to your payment...)
1. How long will you keep the car?
2. With previous cars, how many rims/tires have you damaged that needed complete replacement or even repair?
You could just "bank" the money and "self insure" if you have an issue.. And if you never use it, well, "here dealer, have $1500 I don't need"

The short answer is it very much depends on where you live, how low profile the tires on your vehicle are, and the general condition of the roads you travel on. The issue may be more the wheel (rims) than the tires themselves, though I'm sure the tires aren't cheap either.
I just picked up my NX on Friday (finally!) and live in NYC. The roads around here are notoriously pot-holed, so it was a no-brainer for me to take it, especially since I was unable to downgrade my 20 inch wheels to 18 inch. (My dealer also mistakenly offered it to me at $995 and then (surprisingly honorably) honored that initial price.) My coverage also includes "paintless dent and ding" (essentially, "popping out" a dented panel, say it gets hit with a baseball or something), windshield coverage (which I already have through my standard insurance since it is required in NY) and key replacement (I'm told a new key is $480 or so). But from your description below YMMV.
Also, in the "wink wink nudge nudge" department, my dealer told me the magic words to use are "road hazard" even if it's just curb rash etc.
Congrats on your new NX and enjoy it!

I personally feel like it could be worth it.
Twice now I’ve been behind an accident where damaged vehicle parts were in the road and extremely hard to dodge when I couldn’t merge into a different lane. About a decade ago, I ran over debris and destroyed my wheel and tire.
About a year ago and two days after purchasing my Ux hybrid, I was unable to merge onto the interstate from the ramp due to other drivers not allowing access to the lane. I ran over broken glass and didn’t realize it until I drove roughly 20 miles home. My run flats didn’t lose enough pressure to trigger a warning but the tire had to be replaced.
This warranty will also repair any damage to your wheel from rubbing against curbs too. From what I remember, the cost of a wheel and tire was roughly the same amount as the warranty. There could always be a situation where more than one gets damaged.

It does not pay for road rash curb scraping. You have to completely obliterate the wheel/rim. This very rarely happens and in most cases it is pure profit fro the seller. This is even much worse than getting an extended warranty. 99% of people will not come out ahead but lose money on the purchase.
And you should have to lie to get service or replacement. That's just not right.
In fact, I do think it is right to even publish posts that say "wink" "wink" that encourages lying to get service. You shouldn't be claiming road hazard if it is not road hazard.
I had a 2016 Volkswagen Golf R and I hit a pothole on an exit ramp doing about 30 miles an hour. It obliterated the tire and rim/wheel. I had to replace the rim/wheel and it cost me $700. So I bought wheel insurance on my 2018 Ford Focus RS. I was making a freeway U-turn and the was some cement sticking out that I didn't see it was dark dueing the day. It chipped my forged rim. It didn't hurt the tire. I tried to get the rim/wheel replaced and the rim service warranty would not replace it. It only replaces completely destroyed rims/wheels. The; in fact it is the only Volkwahen incident was rare and abnormal; in fact in 50+ years of driving it is the only destryed rim/wheel I have ever had.
The tire warranty is completely separate and is based on the tire. I always get it; it has now gone up to about $37 per tire. If you have a blow-up or shredded tire due to actual road hazars and you have 3/32 "" or more tread they replace the tire and you only pay an additional $37 for the new tire. I completelyh recommned this becuase tires fail; but do not get it from Lexus, get it from the tire manuafacturwer.

and a wheel is like $480 from dealer, $200ish online. the RFT is around $250ish each (https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...1RFT&tab=Sizes)
you could easily replace all your rims and tires (non runflats granted) for cost of this warranty
$1500 in a GIC @ 4% a year for 5 years is $1824. ..so when was last time you destroyed 4 rims where it's not even repariable and 4 tires in 5 years? even then you'll at best break even on cost of the "protection".

Those prices are nuts. I got the three year package, wheels and tires for $299.00 Had it before on some RX and it paid for itself. Three tires replaced over the 18 months I had it. never damaged a rim.
$299, well worth it, 1400-1700 nope ! Check your insurance to, some policies cover that stuff.

Are you referring to purchasing road hazard warranty directly with the manufacturer? I didn’t realize you could do this on tires that came stock with a newly purchased vehicle as it seems Al like the dealership would be the ones that would have to offer it? And was the $37 per tire for the lifetime of the tire?
Sorry, for the confusion, I always purchase replacement tires from Discount Tire and get the $37 warranty from them. The OEM tires have a Tire manufacturer's warranty typically that oinly covers miles driven. Most OEM tires from Lexus and other car dealers do not have a road hazard warranty.
If you can buy road hazard TIRE ONLY warranty from Lexus for 2 years ( typical life of first set of tires; especially no higher years life for run-flats) for a total cost of $37 per tire for a total of $148 or less, then, by all means, buy the warranty from Lexus. If you pay more then you are wasting your money IMHO.

I always get a tire warranty from Discount Tire for about $25., or so, each, when purchasing any car, even used, if the tires are any good at all. Cost depends on value of the tire. This covers all hazards for the life of the tread. Doesn't matter if you haven't bought them from Discount. I have them balanced at the same time for about $10., each, for a lifetime balance and rotate free. For some tires in the past, I've been more than ten times to have them balanced and rotated--all for free after the first time.
I purchased some nice looking spoked tires for my last car recently for about $500. for the four and sold the OEMs to a junk yard. They looked better than the stock ones on my Lexus now.
