Spare Tire Retrofit
Hi everyone, I am excited to be picking up my new NX 350H this week (fingers crossed). I don't love that it comes with run flats only - I am planning to swap them to traditional tires once I wear through the first set. Does anyone know if there's an option to retrofit a spare in the storage under the cargo area? If not, any suggestions for the best option when using non-RFTs?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I investigated this online and came up with a strategy for myself.
First line of defense for a flat will be roadside assistance. Owning this is probably cheaper than replacing run flats.
Next line of defense will be patch kit and inflator to see if we can limp home. (if roadside is unavailable or too slow in some remote area)
Last line of defense will be fix a flat. Yes it can be a mess to clean up etc. but will likely never get used.
Some people will even throw an actual spare in the back if/when traveling to very remote areas where an unrepairable flat could become dangerous. Remote doesn't have to be offroad. This isn't in our plans but understand for those that do. At this point you are probably also bringing spare gas, food, etc.

Our 350h doesn't have the same free space as the 250/350 below the cargo area mat. There's going to be closed off section on the left that would prevent putting anything wheel-sized in there, assuming you could even pull out the plastic dividers in the non-hybrid NX models.
I have the same concerns as you and can't really think of anything aside from just trusting in roadside assistance and a damaged run-flat holding up a short drive. If anyone is selling a single 20" wheel maybe we throw one in the trunk to trade off valuable cargo space for some peace of mind?
