Default Close & lock (walk away) function

On page 121 in the manual:

********************************************
Close & lock (walk away) function

When the power back door is open, all of the doors will be locked when the power back door is closed.

Close & lock (walk away) function operating conditions
This function can be operated when all of the following conditions are met:
  • An electronic key is not detected within the vehicle.
  • All of the doors other than the power back door are closed.
  • The brake pedal is not depressed.
  • The power switch is off.
************************

Anybody able to get the above "walk away lock" to work?

This is when you close the lift gate with the lock button. It should work as gen 1 also works.

Really? The manual on pages 122 & 123 do mention about hands-free operation:Hands free close & lock (walk away) function* operating conditions This function can be operated when all of the following conditions are met:
  • The hands free close & lock function setting is on.
  • The Hands Free Power Back Door operating conditions are met.
  • An electronic key is not detected within the vehicle.
  • All of the doors other than the power back door are closed.
  • The brake pedal is not depressed.
  • The power switch is off.

Vehicles with Hands Free Power Back Door:*2

3 If the power back door is closed using a hands free power back door close operation while carrying an electronic key, all of the doors will be locked at the same time.

I guess the "hands-free" term is confusing. You still have to meet all the conditions and then use your hand or a finger on your hand to push the close and lock button. ....then walk away

YMMV,

Got it. What a bummer! They could have got it to work like Tesla's walk away lock.

Thank you guys for all your explanations and patience!

Initially I had challenges with close & lock.
It works if I press the close & lock button and get out of the way by stepping to the side.
If I take a couple steps back, the door will not close.
If I take a couple steps to the left or Right Side of the car, the door will close & lock all doors.

I noticed that in the manual that the 'close and lock - walk away' function can be turned off through a dealer only option. I still have three weeks before my 30 day personalization appointment so will try it for awhile longer before deciding. I never missed this safety feature with my previous RX.

I'm a little embarrassed to say for several days I pushed the close and lock button and wondered why the car just beeped at me....I figured it didn't work until someone mentioned (after laughing at me) that I had to walk away.

Looks like the Hands free close & lock (walk away) feature is defaulted to 'Off', so it only works via the button unless you have the dealer change the setting.

The button Close & lock (walk away) feature, as DaveDude said, is defaulted to 'On' but can be changed to 'Off', but not sure why you would do that...?

My 2020 Mazda CX5 had that feature too. Now I have to relearn to physically look my doors. First word problems I guess. 😅

My wife's Mazda walk away lock function works maybe 60% of the time, so I just press the fob to be sure. She has a 2018 M3 GT

You could ask your dealer to switch the setting for hands free walk away and lock to 'ON'.....Lexus just chose to default to off.

See page 769 in the manual for the options. Unfortunately this one is a dealer change only.

Excellent! Thank you! I'll ask my dealer next time I stop by.

guys, we are talking about this hands free walk away features that must invovled the back door, or it just simple lock the car when we exit the car?
From the manual, all the walk away features are under the catagory of back door. So even i actviate the hands free walk away, what will be the difference, if not invovling the back door? Anyone had activated it?

As far as I know, there is NO hands free walk away and lock, UNLESS your using the specified button, ON THE BACK HATCH DOOR.
