My wife has a 2021 UX 250H and she has the Lexus app on her phone and on that app we can start the car or see how much fuel we have, recent trips, etc.

Is that what this is or in regards to the 2022 NX 350H is there something more to it? As I will be buying one and am trying to learn as much as I can now.

Thanks.

With that package on the 2022, you get a smart key which is almost as thin as a credit card and you can use it to do anything with the car that the FOB can do - it just doesn't have any buttons on it. But you can unlock the doors, start the car, drive it, etc. The digital key actually lets you share access to the car with up to X number of other people via their smart phone - you can grant them access and you can also revoke it. Ours has this package on it but we haven't tried to use any of it yet.

Share with others access? Do you mean they could get in and operate the car without having the key or the digital key?

thanks for responding

Yes, you can share them a key to use on their phone. In addition you can open your car if you car is in the same area and it would act like a regular key.

Yes, that is my understanding. I don't foresee a reason we would ever use it but it also allows you to use your own phone to access and start the car, so if you misplaced your FOB or forgot to pick it up, I suppose it would be convenient to not have to go back and get it or look for it if you are just making a quick run and back somewhere. We haven't even taken the digital key out of the wrapper, but we've had the NX less than a week.

Just to be clear there are 3 things here:

- There is a digital key that can be generated by the Lexus app and stored on your phone. This can also be shared digitally with other people and also revoked. Its a a virtual key not a physical key. This can be used to unlock and drive the card.

- There is also a slim credit card sized key fob that can fit in your wallet. This also can unlock and drive the car. Its just a like a normal key fob.

- You can also use the Lexus app on your phone to remote unlock and start the car. But unless you have a digital or physical key you cannot simply drive the car after remote starting it. It will stop once you get in.

I haven't tried the remote start yet, but according to the tutorial video someone just posted a link to, the NX no longer shuts off the engine when you get in after remote starting. I assume that's what happened prior to the 2nd gen. But if you get in without a fob or digital key of some sort, you cannot put the car in gear. If you do have the fob or digital key, after remote starting, you do still have to put your foot on the brake and press the start button before you can put it in gear and drive.

I can confirm. Does not turn off when doors are unlocked. Not sure about prior NX, but every other Lexus I've known will shutoff once unlocked. Nice upgrade imo.

Yep sorry, my mistake. You can't put it in drive but it does stay running. Agreed that is a nice improvement.

.
The digital key is generated and stored on Lexus servers in the cloud and a copy of the key is downloaded to the app. When I took delivery of my vehicle last weekend their servers were down until Monday morning when I called them and I could not download my digital key.

The reason I am stating this is because I believe once you have the digital key, there may be some kind of verification with Lexus back end servers and if they are down, you may not get into your car.

also as stated in the manual under the description of the digital key, they stress that you should not depend on this digital key if you were in an area with weak or no cell service or no Wi-Fi.

I got my NX last week. Cannot access Lexus internal server to set up digital key.

Not sure if related but if I use remote connect from iPhone to start car, my own profile does not load up. Instead a guest profile loads up.

gotta manually go to car screen to reload my profile first. Wonder if any one else has this problem. Wonder if it is related to the digital key issue

I have the Pixel 6 Pro and it's not working properly too. I was able to register for the key and have it setup. But it renames my device to "Passive". When I attempt to lock my car, it would say the key is still in the car. I had to remove the key from the phone and use my iPhone.

However, I've also noticed the car takes time to recognize the digital key. I unlock the car get it and try to start it, it takes a few presses for it to start. However, it does start with my profile.
