Default Trunk Lock issues

Is anyone else having issues with the trunk lock button? When I open the trunk then try to close/lock it, it’s beeping at me and doesn’t do anything. I looked through the titles on previous posts and didn’t know if this had already been discussed.

If you are trying to close the rear door by pushing the button on the door you have to push it and walk away for it to close. If you press the button and are standing too close the door will beep and not close.

I just tried it and it still wouldn’t close. The other button that doesn’t lock works just fine.

I don’t have the car so I can’t say this is it for sure. But is it possible that you have a key in the vehicle when you’re doing it? It can’t lock if a key is in the car

I wish I accidentally left a key in it. It just keeps beeping and doesn’t attempt to close. I can push the other button to close it and walk to the driver door handle to lock the car. My UX would close and lock just fine.

I agree that it seems too finicky and should be more consistent with its closing.

I’ve gotten it to work somewhat reliably when I am close by, with the key in my pocket, and I step away from the hatch after pressing the button.

@kimberly88 I had the same problem on my UK spec NX yesterday. I too had a UX that closed perfectly as you describe.

At the time I assumed it was because of the proximity sensor and I did as you did and locked the door. I will try walking away today to see if that works.

Update: Just been to the car and walking away from the hatch promptly worked fine.😬

Y’all gave me some hope. I’ll try to mess with it again in a few hours when it’s warmer outside. I’ll keep you updated.

I really appreciate all of your comments! The NX is very different than my UX. The lock button does work perfectly. Apparently when you press the button, you need to release after the second beep.

Interesting. I'll play with mine. Thanks for the comment.

Unhappy Trunk lock issues

I am experiencing the same issues with auto close/lock cargo feature located on the cargo door. Door is not closing regardless moving out of the way and having key fob. Plan to contact dealer as it is annoying. It works some days and not others -- following suggested instructions.

It took me a little practice to get it right, now it works every time for me..... You stand near the back of the car, push the lock button (make sure you have the key fob on you and no extra fob in the car), let it beep twice, then relatively quickly walk away. It will beep once or twice more then close and lock with a confirmation beep. I've also set my mirrors to fold upon lock so I have a visual confirmation from a distance.

The initial beeping seems to just be a countdown vs. acknowledgement of any kind, and if you stay too long it will abort. It is (per my Lexus tech person) looking for the key first, then making sure you're out of range so it doesn't crush you. In theory you can walk away after the first beep, but I've found that to be inconsistent. Takes a little more patience than I usually have, but seems to work.

In my experience, if you press it and immediately walk away, nothing happens. Seems like I have to press it, wait for the beeps to stop, and then walk away and it’ll close and lock.

The inconsistency of the close and lock feature frustrated me for a while, but I think I've figured out what the issue was for me: If I'm holding the key up high, particularly in the same hand I press the button with, nothing happens when I walk away. I've had the best success putting the key in my pocket before pressing the button.
