Latest on custom builds + dealer markup
The only problem is -- and I could be wrong -- you won't see those vehicles till the very end of the year with the current chip shortage crisis.
Geo, what are you specifically looking for?
I think I shared my build with you. Heck, I think you were the guy that helped me put it together. I'll include it in this message. It's basically a loaded 350h. Every possible feature you can put into the vehicle is what I am aiming for.
Listen, if I am going to buy a vehicle that I am going to be driving for the next 8+ years, I want it perfect. I am sure you feel the same way.

So, I spoke to my dealer here in NJ about the status of custom ordering my 2022 NX 350h
Right now, still no custom orders. However, speaking to reps, there is hope that custom orders will begin next month and then a 3-4 month wait after that for the car to be built.
This is not a promise, just speculation at this point.
Also, the dealership (and I am being told all other Lexus dealerships) are marking the vehicles up $3-5k due to the market climate.
Just a horrible time to purchase any new car. Unfortunately, my current lease is expiring soon. I can extend it another 6 months but it doesn't look like anything will improve by year's end.

I put in a build on December 2nd for MSRP and no dealer installed addons. Last Wednesday Lexus officially started building the car. I assume its built by now waiting to be shipped.
Unless I happened to get lucky on placing my order right in a specific window, I don't know why dealers are telling people, 'no builds.' Unless the dealer themselves doesn't want to deal with it.

When I went back and ask for custom builds they said Lexus no longer accept custom orders. I guess the right window is December.

it looks like they do that on every car they sell. It’s a major protection package.
I'm not so sure its an error. I suspect that the chip shortage might be forcing us to choose between Luxury package and ML audio. We shall see. Some car makers are just deleting options from a build and crediting the buyer on the window sticker.
YMMV,
Midcowi3
I would guess we are seeing ML available on the Luxury packages coming in now because these are early builds and Lexus most likely had these in reserve, possibly before early pandemic dates. There is no way to determine how much reserve Lexus has on hand.
I disagree, premium electronic sound systems are affected by the chip shortages. BMW’s premium Harman Kardon sound system in fact can’t even be ordered now on most models due to the ongoing chip shortages.

So, after several months of being a member of this forum in hopes of buying a new Lexus NX350h, I ended up this morning, buying a 2022 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring.
It was not my proudest moment. Don't get me wrong -- I have been driving Lincolns forever, but I have always leased them. I never wanted to buy a Lincoln because of the drastic depreciation.
However, this is the current situation I found myself in with Lexus...
There was no hope for a customized luxury vehicle with all the bells-and-whistles in the upcoming months.
It was posted on this forum that Lexus temporarily stopped manufacturing vehicles because of the chip shortage.
On top of that, my dealer was tacking on anywhere between $2-5k on their price and I suspect even if production resumed, I would be paying the surcharge.
So with the Lexus price now inching over $60k for a loaded vehicle, the Lincoln Corsair at the same price point looked like the alternative when I needed a vehicle rather quickly.
It's also a Hybrid and PHEV
Lincoln is not marking up their vehicles. In fact, they came in under the Internet configuration price most likely due to the lease with only 15,000 miles I was turning in.So, no, this is not a knock against Lexus. Lexus is the vehicle I wanted. Lexus is still the superior vehicle with more reliability and less depreciation.
However, the market is just horrible right now and for the foreseeable future it's not going to get any better. I had to get into a vehicle soon.
I want to thank my pal here, GEOPOZ. You were extremely helpful to me. I had hoped we would meet up once we both bought our new Lexus. I wish you luck with yours.
And, I want to thank everyone here. Great group of people. It was nice talking with all of you!
