Latest on custom builds + dealer markup
I put in a build on December 2nd for MSRP and no dealer installed addons. Last Wednesday Lexus officially started building the car. I assume its built by now waiting to be shipped.
Unless I happened to get lucky on placing my order right in a specific window, I don't know why dealers are telling people, 'no builds.' Unless the dealer themselves doesn't want to deal with it.

It looks like the situation depends on the region and country you are from.

I wasn't give a definitive reason. I've just seen chatter from various locations saying that their dealer said, 'no orders'. There was a user on reddit in my city [Austin] that was told no builds and they matched her with an incoming car. This dealership is owned by the same company as the dealership I went to. Why would they have different policies?
With the amount of BS i've been dealing with from dealers while car shopping Q4-now - nothing surprises me at this juncture.

I can understand the skepticism, but that's just throwing business away.
The dealerships here have been under strict instructions not to order anything they won't be getting into inventory.
Inventories are starting to arrive but they are pre-made vehicles that cannot be customized.
I was told that there was a recent meeting with reps and they forsee allowing custom builds possibly as early as next month.
Again, it all depends on the area you are from, I am assuming.
I am either going with the Orange/Black Interior or Grey/Red Interior.
I am leaning toward the palomino because it is the only one with a light colored headliner. I really don't want a black headliner. I wish there were more options.
Here its no longer possible to build the Luxury Package with a Levinson audio system, it forces me back to Premium Package. So, no HUD with ML audio. Is this just my area or are Left/Right coast users seeing this too?
Another thing to consider is if you want to custom order and you can’t until May or June by the time you get your car it will be Fall 2022 and the 2023’s will be released. That doesn’t make sense to me, might as well try and find a 2022 that’s as close to what you want instead of custom order.
That is why I will likely order a 2023 sight unseen in late summer with the expectation it will be a slight improvement over the first-year 2022.
