Default New car smell - Garage

My new NX is stinking up my garage. After I drive it and park it, it smells. Is it just a matter of time to get the engine and parts settled in?

Does a new oven smell when you first turn it on, or a toaster oven, air fryer?

Cars have engines and components that get hot and the oil on surfaces during manufacturing will have to burn off. nothing major, usually just residual protective layers.

Default Thanks

I guess my last new car did not have the luxury of a garage and I wasn’t expecting it but it makes sense.

It's going away now. I've got 270 miles on it so still pretty new.

It's all the oils and other chemicals present in a new car that for the drivetrain anyways, are burning off with the heat of the engine. All the interior plastics give off those lovely VOC's as well. There's plenty of oils used to make plastic and the oil slowly comes out of them. Even the seat material, fake or real leather, they both have oils and sealants in them to help them remain supple, repel dirt, repel your oils from your skin as well. Skin oil will destroy natural untreated leather. We all demand perfection of our interiors especially, and you have to use all kinds of chemical concoctions to get there. It is true that manufacturers are doing their best to improve on these fronts.

Honda has been enjoying the fruits of their labors with this when they switched their wiring sheathing a few years ago, this is the coating found on all the electrical wiring that protects the wire. Well they switched to a more ecologically friendly soy based product that tastes really good to squirrels, so they made nests under the hoods and began eating the stuff!
