Cars nowadays are becomming too expensive and extremely difficult to repair. It would be nice for engineers to return to simpler designs at least in the repair category.
I won't even mention all the regular and specialized tools and high end electronic scanners just to diagnosis a issue.
Heck, you can't even buy a simple inexpensive service manual anymore, Haynes does not make one for this car and the Lexus info site is too expensive for casual use.
Cars now days are not going in the right direction, you put it in drive and it backs up! :-)
But there is also a flipside to this. My recollection from the 1970s was that cars needed frequent oil changes and tune-ups and that you would probably still need to get a valve job after only a few years. And keeping a car more than 5 years was almost unheard of. So the complexity of today's vehicles has led to much better reliability and longevity.
Don't miss those scorching hot vinyl seats in the heat! and the metal dash boards! My father's green 1972 Impala was a torture chamber for my brothers and I! Then we had an impala wagon where the back window went up into the roof. We would stand up in the back and hang on to the little roof rack. Or at least most of the time, once while we were having groceries put in the back by those helpers that use to bring them out to your car as you lined up along the drive thru for the store, my brother stood up, the grocery guy finished and yelled OK! My dad hit the gas, brother did a 360 tumbled out and landed on his feet! We nearly peed ourselves laughing!
