Default Warning: Boosting the 12-Volt Battery!

Warning: Every owner of a Lexus Hybrid should know how to safely boost their 12-Volt battery!

It is easy for anyone, even some Mechanics and Tow Truck Drivers, to get this wrong and fry the engine! While the 12-Volt battery is located in the trunk, the car is designed for a boost from the front, under the hood. The diagram below shows that once the positive terminal is located and clipped onto, the negative clip can only be connected to the metal bar found on the left side of the engine (shown as D). This is different from most gasoline-powered cars, whereby the negative clip can be attached to several different points. To help prevent an incident with our Lexus, I have used a perma-pen to mark “negative” on that special bar, and the other drivers of the car and I have walked through the connection process. (Note: There is actually a YouTube video out there that instructs people the wrong way.)
