Guy out on YouTube with a Tundra pick-up with over 1.5 million miles. They asked about his oil changes and said I do what Toyota says every 10,000 miles. I will probably only keep mine to 1.4 million miles so I am going with what Lexus Mobil and my Friend local shop foreman with 25 years experience with Lexus who also says 10,000.
Your money your decision. Oil changes are cheap cheap insurance towards a healthy engine. I trust experts in the field. After 5,000 miles or 6 months it's time to change your oil and filter. low mileage use cars don't provide any protection to extending oil life. Oil will still degrade over time, gather up condensation and other sediments from repeated short trips, hybrid or not.
180,000 mile dealer serviced 2015 Toyota Camry. Oil changes done per dealership and owners manual recommendation at every 10,000 miles.
Engine a total loss: Cylinder walls scored, oil control rings plugged, connecting rod bearings scored. Thanks to 10,000 mile service interval for all engine oil changes.

hilarious you're basing your decision on one Camry. Lol. Sorry but I'm trusting the manufacturer of my vehicle and oil over you. You obviously do not understand the Care Care Nut who is YouTube clickbaiter.
And what is the cause of this failure? I have watched some parts of it but I didn't have patience to listen in full as it's too repetitive "change every 5k miles" and boring. Sludge, yes, but how oil change is going to help if old PCV valve is broken and never checked nor replaced? Maybe change the $20 PCV instead instead of blind hope excessive oil changes will compensate all problems? Or was the valve good but piston oil control rings clogged anyway from "brown & slippery" fluid as this engine is prone to it? Maybe it would be cheaper to try piston oil control rings cleaning then - obviously not when the engine is already shot.
As far as I heard these 2AR-FE engines are not prone as much to sludge forming as some older ones. Just assuming it was because of 10k oil change intervals doesn't sound convincing. But if it's because "brown & slippery" fluid was used instead of proper synthetic oil by cheating dealers then sure, it's expected outcome.

Your money, your decision.
I'll continue to give credence to a Master Toyota Technician with many years of work on Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
You'll notice in the video the manufacturer did nothing to help out the owner of the car who followed the maintenance schedule per the manual.
