I had mine come on today, has been quite a long time since I last ran the tank down so much. I got warnings in 3 separate places. The little dash light, the pop-up alert window in the dash, and on the infotainment screen (this one may require having the Lexus nav map displaying, I think it was offering me to find the nearest gas station, but I didn't select it). When I stopped for fuel, it took 46.5L (first click) out of the rated 55L (so 8.5L or 2.3G left). This is bang on what the manual says, and pretty much identical to the 3 other Toyota/Lexus cars I've had in the past.

It's actually bad for the engine (and puts alot of stress on your fuel pump) if you let the fuel get low enough to where the light comes on. Light or no light, when your tank gets down to a 1/4, just go fill up.
There is a reserve of somewhere around 2.5-3 gallons when DTE is 0 (blank) and no bars are on your gas gauge. Normally , this extra fuel is user to cool the submerged fuel pump so your effective gas tank size is only 11.5 to 12 gallons. There are times in an emergency or no fuel stations are available when you utilize this reserve. The only strain it puts on the fuel pump is that you eliminate some of the fuel cooling and it only puts minimal strain on the fuel pump if any. It certainly does not put "a lot of stress on your fuel pump". Do make it a habit to run you fuel tank dry, but an occasional dip in to the "reserve" fuel will not cause problems. Let's not cause FUD about using the "reserve" fuel in an "emergency" .

Peace

Who's causing a FUD? Never in my 30 years of driving have I encountered an "emergency" where I ran out of gas or have the gas light come on. It's called paying attention and being proactive.

Lightbulb design a pump that needs 3 gallons of gas to keep cool

Clarity, I have not run out of gas either; my reference was the hypothetical case of some Lexus drivers, not me. However, those who run out of gas lose the cooling factor temporarily on their internal fuel pump and unless the do it all the time it will not damage their fuel pump. I also have been driving since the days of 3 on the column and have a lot of driving experience under my belt. Peace brother, I know you meant well.

Last night I could see the "Distance to Empty" was getting down to 70 miles to go, so today I decided to push on to see if I would get the warnings some of you have mentioned.
At 16 miles to go on the "D to E", the gas tank symbol lit-up & the "Low Fuel" warning showed on the instrument panel.
There was no suggestion of possible gas stations to go to and I do have the Lexus NAV system on..
I'm happy to see the warnings above did come on for me even if it comes on quite low at 16 miles to empty.
I usually fill up a lot earlier - but I did want to be sure the warnings were working right.

The tank holds 14.5 Gallons when fully empty. So how many gallons did you fill up with ? .... somewhere around 11 to 11.5 ??

I was down to 1 mile to "Empty" by the time I got to the gas station today.
Here's a thousand words in pictures.
