What do the little blue dashes above the climate control icons on the screen mean? They change from gray to blue when toggling through A/C, recirc, fan... commands. I can't find it anywhere in the manuals. This is my 4th Lexus and fist NX with the new big touchscreen. I'm still trying to figure everything out. Thank you.
I have deduced that BLUE means the item is on and GREY means the item is turned off but I could be wrong. Much of the tech stuff in our NX350h is inscutable to me as an "old school" guy.
That's the conundrum... If I toggle through say the A/C button which is white when on and gray when off, I can get the little blue dash to be on when the A/C legend is gray or A/C white with the blue dash on or blue dash off when A/C is gray. I'm thinking it's some kind of standby mode or something. I would just like to know what it is.
Are you referring to the 3 dashes above the seat controls? If so, they indicate the status of the seat heat/ventilation settings. The number of blue dashes indicates the fan speed of the ventilated seats. The number of red dashes indicates the seat heater power level.
No, it's not the dashes for the seat controls. It's a single dash above the A/C or recerc air symbol. The selections when you press the legend are: white, gray with a gray dash, or gray with the blue dash. I still don't know what that blue dash means.

The only button I can see in a place where you are describing is a Sync button.
I am pretty sure a blue dash means the thing is active. Similar to the settings for the vehicle which are grey if not chosen and blue if chosen.
Ah yes, I understand which dashes are being referred to now, and yes, this is the answer. For the recirc control, blue means on, grey means off (fresh air), and I believe "nothing" indicates the mode is not selectable with the current air flow mode. For the AC control, its lit its on, if its not lit its off. There is a lot of automation and customizable features selectable which makes the climate controls not overly intuitive for what actually is happening. I usually leave my system in full auto all the time (or simply off if I'm running with the windows open) and it serves me well 99.9% of the time. I think I've had to actually use the manual defrost mode only 2 or 3 times in 2 years (benefits of parking in a garage). The last time I had to use it I remember having to pull over because I could not remember where the control for it was.
Thanks for the update and I think you're probably right. It has something to do with the "AUTO" or "S" mode settings. I haven't played with it in a while because I'm still driving my older GS. The picture in the thread from oreon333 is different than what I have. My display has the small dash above the recirc and A/C and AUTO symbols. Same as what you see above the Sync symbol.
The amount of engineering that went into this car's HVAC system is absolutely mind boggling! This was all done for the most part to make the system as 'green' or eco friendly as possible, that means it saves gas or battery energy.
You can set the air temp to a cool setting, not even bother to touch the AC, and it will cool down the air (the system will internally use the AC as it decides to use it in the most efficient manner). Or you can force ON the AC and it will stay on. Or as mentioned just simply put it on AUTO and it will make ALL the decisions for you! In AUTO when you jump into a cold car in the winter it won't set fan on any high amount, until the 'coolant' gets warm, then it will bring up the fan speed to high to warm cabin, and lower it once set temp is reached.
A grey coloured 'dash' will mean YOU haven't activated it but it may still function to achieve it's goal. You want AC you push it and it turns on and goes blue, it won't turn off again until you push it OFF and it's not blue. I guess technically grey could mean 'standby'.
