Default NOCO Longer Cables

Since we’re not supposed to attach the negative cable of the NOCO to any clamp point within reach of the black cable (one foot long), and the spot on the engine we’re supposed to attach is about 3 feet away, has anyone found longer NOCO Boost Plus 1000 cables? Can’t find on Amazon.

This works on my noco, is that what you are looking for? Or just for the one side to reach longer

Right, just need the negative to be able to reach the left side of the engine while the positive is attached. My NOCO cables are too short to accomplish that. So the actual cables with the clamps need to be at least a couple feet each.

We have a thread about that somewhere, people there discussed how they extended their negative cable by cutting the cable and then adding additional few feet of cable and either soldering, crimping or other means of connecting two wires together.
Here you go, found it -> https://www.clublexus.com/forums/nx-...-starting.html

Thanks, I was looking for that thread.

Don’t think I’m up for the DYI cable fix. I know @lsft has jumped his car with the negative clamped on one of the nuts closer to the ECU box, I guess this is safe? He pointed to the top right one in a video. I was jumped twice, but I didn’t see where he put the negative. I didn’t think if you chose the wrong nut inches away from each other, you would fry your ECU. Can’t believe they don’t make longer cables for the NOCO!

I agree the cables are too short. I had a look under my hood and there are 2 ground cables bolted to the inside of the fender just below the fuse holder. I think it would be safe enough to clamp the black cable there. Those appear to be far enough away from the ECU module and following the cables as best I could, I didn't see them going to that module. I've had my car boosted twice and don't recall where the CAA guy clamped the ground to, but there was no damage to my ECU. So if and when I need to use my NOCO, I'll roll the dice and clamp it there. I'd be willing to buy a longer set if they made one, though.

I also have a NOCO battery pack in the car and didn't know this was an issue. Thanks for bringing it up.

I did a quick update video since Lexus provided the nuts to not clamp. Not sure if you watched the first and not the updated one.

But this is where I clamped when I jumped my car 2 times.

I didn't know about this requirement. Is it for all Noco chargers? I have the 1-amp charger.

Note. 450h+ plug-in hybrid information: I attach the negative NOCO clip to the unpainted nuts on the right of the fuse box (and positive to the special jumper connection). When I switch the NOCO on, it only has to supply enough current to lift the 12v battery enough to operate the car systems so I can start the car and get it in READY mode, which takes between a few seconds and one minute for me. If you use the NOCO for a real high current start, in a non-hybrid, then you need to use a better connection.

Thanks, I saw the first version of your “Do Not Do This” video where you were fairly certain it was okay clamp on the two nuts farthest from the ECU. But you weren’t 100%. Now it looks like you’re more comfortable to recommend those clamping spots since the NOCO negative cable won’t reach the Lexus manual’s preferred spot. I was hoping to take all uncertainty out of the equation by buying a longer cable, but that’s not happening unless I make it myself. I do feel better about about the alternative spots if you don’t think there’s a chance of frying the ECU with a jump there.

If you want to roll the dice and jump it there then by all means go for it. Please read my post here.

I've boosted twice with that nut, but again I could be lucky that it's not an issue. We do know that those nuts still connect to the other wires they said to not clamp via the metal. I haven't had to boost again since I do have a trickle charger and I've been charging it from time to time. Also, if the battery ever goes bad, I would just plug my trickle charger in to charge the battery again and really don't need the booster. Worst case, drive the other car and charge the 12V battery.
