Just got off the phone with Apple. The issues with the OIS 18 IPhone Update truncating CarPlay street names on HUD is squarely with them. The Senior Advisor I talked to said that this issue won’t be escalated to engineering unless more complaints are lodged. She said to call Apple at 1-800-275-2273. They had me duplicate the problem with Apple Maps while on the phone, and take a screenshot of the HUD. Then she created a “case” for engineering. But they have less than ten of these cases so there’s no sense of urgency to fix it. We assumed the HUD issue would be fixed in an update, but it’s not even on their radar yet. The Apple Senior Advisor asked me to tell everyone with this problem to call it in: 1-800-275-2273.
If they know it’s busted why do they need more cases? This isn’t a question of preference. The software is broke.

Good question. I guess in their minds, if people don’t seem to care enough to report it, we must not be bothered by the truncated street names. They don’t think it is an issue unless enough people report it as an issue. Originally Posted by chuckNX

You are lucky to have any HUD with CarPlay. Toyota didn't bother to make it work with Android at all, despite charging $900 for the HUD option. While other automakers have it since long time ago. The TMC software quality is really disappointing.
And this case too, the TMC should be pushing Apple on behalf of many thousands of their paid customers but not, "care for yourself".

I'm not sure if this is a TMC issue since on iPhone Google maps will not carry the directions on HUD or instrument cluster.
That might be a Google issue.
As far as Apple maps casting the names on HUD i beehive it was working under last iOS update. Which would point the issue at Apple.

We’re past the point of wondering who is responsible for the Apple Maps street names now being truncated on HUD after the OIS 18 update as Apple has admitted it’s their doing.Originally Posted by toyotaman7

This issue now is not enough people have called Apple at to complain. Their Senior Advisor said the Engineers have not yet put this issue on their list of things to work on because as far as they know, very few people care about the shortened street names. It doesn’t sound like it’s going to get fixed unless more people call in as they aren’t reading these forums to inspire fixes. So if you want the street names to revert back to how they were before OIS 18, you have to call Apple at 1-800-275-2273.

I called Apple with the intent of registering this complaint, but things went a little sideways. I got an excellent rep and she listened to my entire issue and then asked me to hold so that she can see if she has any information on the issue. She came back on and asked me if I’d be willing to get in the car and try something with her. I was willing and took my phone into the car and even let her get access to my phone with Apple support. I made the mistake (I guess) of starting the car. First thing she wanted me to do was Forget This Car. Long story short I eventually lost my connection with her and could not get my Lexus to reconnect to Bluetooth or to CarPlay. I later learned that her attempts to call me back were all going to an iPad in another room lol. Took me 30 minutes to get CarPlay to reconnect (I had to leave the house and escape my Wi-Fi maybe?). Anyway, the reconnection to CarPlay didn’t fix the truncating issue and I’m. Back to square one. Did I actually register a complaint like you asked? Dunno.
I wish we could just post something somewhere.

So sorry that happened to you! You raise good point that I forgot to mention - DON’T LET THEM TRY AND FIX IT OVER THE PHONE! If there was a fix, someone would’ve posted it already. So having us reboot, restart, clear, reattach, all those “let’s just turn if off and on again” solutions don’t exist for this problem, but they feel the need to go through their protocols.Originally Posted by New2025NX

Not one person has ever reported a fix or solution across the forums so I knew going through the restart stuff would yield nothing but more settings to have to recalibrate after they get wiped out.
I let them see my phone as I opened Apple Maps, put in a destinations, and then took a photo of the HUD with shortened street names. They do want to see you replicate the problem so they would not take a past photo of the HUD issue.
But don’t let the advisors try and “fix” it. There is so solution yet. Just report it. The more people who report, the sooner the Apple engineers will look into it. Call Apple at 1800-275-2273 and complain.

I had my 5,000 mile service yesterday and decided to have them document this Apple Maps HUD display issue. They put it on my service report and told me 'the line' that Lexus usually has updates "often quarterly" and I should look for one of those updates to fix the truncated street problem. I didn't push the issue any further. As a reminder there's more about this issue at Apple's discussion forums:

If folks get a chance it'd help to call apple and document the issue with them. I'm hoping someone can get us an Apple Ticket Number that we could all use to call apple and inquire about. See top OP post for more information.

Yes, everyone must call because Apple is not going to fix it in an update. I spoke with engineering, and not enough people have complained to even put it on their radar. They do not play attention to this forum, or even the Apple forum. They don’t think the truncated names is an issue. The only was for them to even put it on their list of things to look at is if more people call Originally Posted by New2025NX

Don’t let them even try to fix it over the phone. No restarts or reboots will restore full names. Just show them the problem with a screen grab while you’re on the phone.
but unless more people put in an official complaint, no update is going to take us back to OS17 full street names.
3rd Gear
Can someone post an image of what the HUD looks like before and after the update? In other words the expected vs actual behavior. I’ve only ever seen the truncated street names in my 2024.

While I personally don't have a photo of my HUD from before it broke (eg with ios18), I can tell you Apple Maps used to look the same as Lexus Navigation looks now. Before it broke the HUD mirrored what you see you on your Apple Maps dash display. The full street name would appear in your HUD, and if I recall correclty, it wasn't JUST a matter of smaller print. The words used to take up more real estate on the display. Maybe someone has a picture.

Thank you for making that video! Very helpful! Please, please, Lexus owners, please call and report this issue to Apple!
Not purely an Apple issue. I've always had the truncated street names on my NX450h+ on the HUD... though without the three dots. It never displays the full street name, just the first 8 or so characters of the street name.
