I just noticed all the recent improvements in Google Maps. The satellite view looks great and they merged all the good features of Waze into Google Maps (accidents, speed traps/Police, etc). I've been using Apple Maps because it works with he Lexus Heads Up Display. For interstante travel I'm willing to sacrifce the HUD to use Google Maps, but I'm wondering if there are any steering wheel settings I can do to at least see the turn by turn on my dashboard. Has anyone seen turn by turn on the dashboard of a NX that has HUD?

 

Unfortunately the HUD navigation visibility is limited to Google Maps for Android Auto and Apple Maps for CarPlay. It did get me to use Apple Maps more, and I'm actually liking it a lot which surprised me. In my area (Toronto area) the traffic and routing are basically on-par with Google Maps too which I was surprised about.

That said... I'll try Google Maps next time to see the changes you are talking about.

 

I actually took a road trip from the Midwest to your fine neck of the woods, Canada, today. I used the new Google Maps and got all the Waze notifications. But I do use an iPhone so I get no love from the HUD. I think for long trips I’ll use Google and around town I’ll use Apple for turn by turn. Maybe Apple will start crowd sourcing like Google does.

 

So how do you get Google Maps up on the HUD? I tried it this afternoon, nothing. Started the car, AA loaded, with Waze. Went into the menu on the big screen and selected Google Maps. Nothing on the HUD.

So it also seems that Apple Maps has feature to report issues like speed checks and vehicles on shoulder ahead. Does anyone use the Apple crowdsourcing? I can’t recall if I’ve gotten reports like that while using Apple Maps.

 

It’s truly amazing how much Apple Maps has improved!

 

You can (and should!) do amazing things when you have $60B in cash floating around. I think the developers use $100 bills to stuff their chair cushions because its less bother than using foam.

 

I think whoever said you can, is misinformed. I'm on an S22U, all apps up to date, '24 nx450h+. I load up Android Auto and navigate with Google maps, nothing on the HUD.

 

That's what I thought. S23 here. All works well and I usually use Waze, but would be cool to have maps up on the HUD too. Would change to Google maps if it worked.

 

Google Maps directions are not shown on HUD using Android Auto, but directions are shown on the center display. They are small, but readable. Lexus own navigation system's directions are also shown on HUD.

 

CarPlay (Apple Maps) also shows up on the HUD

 

Directions on ceter display disappeared after last software update.
