Fix Spotify streaming CarPlay mode
Love my new NX 350h but I kept having a problem with Spotify and other apps not working properly when connected to wireless car play.
Apps would load to screen and music downloaded to my phone would play but trying to access new content was virtually imposable. So wireless CarPlay
uses both a Wi-Fi connection and Bluetooth problem is iPhone doesn't seem to know to use its data connection to access the internet when using apps such as Spotify.
The fix is to connect to you infotainment system then on your iPhone open wifi select the i next to your connection to your lexus scroll down note the ip address, then.
select manual IP and manually enter the IP address you noted and subnet in the appropriate blocks leave the router blank. This forces the iPhone to use its data connection for internet.
I think the issue is when the Lexus issue the DHCP address it populates the router with an IP, and this is normally the gateway for accessing internet. The phone is looking for internet
through the Wi-Fi connection gateway and since the Lexus doesn't have internet service apps stop working.

That sounds all way more complex that its intended to be. Is that because you are trying to use a vehicle hot spot for your Internet? For most people the straight forward way is that all connections should have automatic IP settings, WiFi and BT are used for the phone connection to the car, and cellular data is used for the Internet connection. But I guess if you are trying to use 2 WiFi connections (one on 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz radio) you might get conflicting default routing (ie gateway to Internet). Interesting...
nonot settiing up a hotspot. The automatic IP issued from the lexus includes a gateway router IP address associated with the lexus wifi connection used for wireless car play. Problem i had was I connected to the car wifi and bluetooth but Spotify would not load content for example. But disconnecting from the vehicle and using wired connection everything worked great.
I saw a post in Apple where someone had similar issue different car but wireless carplay would not
Pull data stream, mentioned to try using manual ip but leave router blank. Makes since and worked. The phone thinks it is connected to a wifi access point, so it looks at the gateway router ip to try and pull data from the internet, since my car only has lexus services it cant connect to the internet. So by going manual ip configuration no router ip tricks the phone into using my 5g data instead.
took 1 minute to set up and so far everything runs excellent.
