So... we picked up our brand new 2024 450h+ on Monday. Just so folks know, at least on this model the 'Door Edge Guard' option for $155 is not the thin 3M film that was pictured earlier and that I expected. It is actually quite a bit thicker. See photo below. I'm not disappointed necessarily but if I had a choice, I would not go for these. They disrupt the clean surface of the sides and from an aerodynamic point of view they're essentially trip strips to mess with the air flow... a bit more drag and maybe even noise (I know... very small, but still). Thought I'd share.
I agree don't like the look. Plus don't understand the purpose. If you open the door and hit something which I have never done it chips the guard anyway.

I have those same thick edge guards and I like them. I don't notice them at all when looking at the car from afar. But I'm always happy to see them when I open the door to get in the car.
I had what appeared to be the exact door edge guards (not the 3m) on my 1989 Toyota Corolla. I liked them then--perfect color match and protection against door edge dings. I have the same guards on the door edges of my Atomic Silver 350h. Perfect color match and I like them. YMMV.
I have the thicker ones on cloudburst gray and I like them a lot. I don't think you really noticed them if you don't look for it. And I think it'll give a lot more protection. They were put on by the dealer and their perfect color match.
I have the thicker ones on my new 24 nx 350 f sport. From a distance they don't bother me. But if you look at the top looking down they have a pretty crude cut on them and hollow. I would just worry about moisture collecting inside of them. I can't believe lexus could not come up with a better product. Going this week to have ppf applied and ceramic coating done. I will talk to the detailer and get his opinion.
I've those on my NX which most certainly need to be removed. I have not done it yet because those are on tight. Instructions call on taps with hammer on plastic chisel to remove. I'm afraid it may chip the paint on the door edge.

My NX goes to the detailer on the 18th and he is going to look at them and hit them with steam and see how the paint separation looks. I will update after.
Most ridiculous obnoxious form of Padding the bill.
I agree, this is a build option not a dealer add on. Dealers get what is sent to then. My detailer said that they are most likely added during the paint process. I don't mind some kind of protection but these are hideous.

Our last vehicle these were a free offering from dealer... I requested they be omitted ... salesman says NO CHARGE. I repeated NO Thanks
To me the thick ones don't look terrible and probably are better protection that the PPF ones, but they do scream "welcome to the 80s". They should include a roll of sticky wood grain film for the rest of the side of the car.
