Card? If you are referring to the card type key fob, well that is a regular key fob just without buttons. Its not a "digital key" as such. But you certainly can use both interchangably if you choose. The digital key on a phone does tend to be a bit finicky, whereas the regular fob type keys (whether traditional or card type) are usually very reliable.

Total work in progress for them. It is not reliable at the moment so I would not recommend setting it up at all. I'll post something when we get more information on it's redesign.

I've actually got mine to work fairly consistently, but the only issue I have is that I have to wake up the app and logon for it to work (the manual says this should not be necessary, but it is for me). My phone is frequently putting the Lexus app to sleep because its such a battery drain when the digital key is enabled. Once the app is awake and logged on, I am able to lock the phone screen and it will continue to work at least for a while (I haven't really tested how long typically). I can actually see it working with the app open because the little Bluetooth symbol within the app (not the one on the notification area at the top, at least for Android) at the digital key display will be red and upon approaching the vehicle the Bluetooth symbol will change to blue. Once its blue, I can access all normal fob type functions with my phone. But having to wake up/logon does make it less convenient than a regular fob for sure. I normally only use the digital key when I happen to be working in garage and need something from inside or need to move it out, etc.
Oddly though, my notifications (doors, windows open) continue to work all the time, regardless of the app status.

The notifications of the door/windows open relies on push notification. The car will send a message to the cloud servers telling the car has a door or window open. After that, the cloud server will push a notification to your phone using the OS push notification system. The car does not connect to your phone via wifi/bluetooth to tell you it's window/door is open. This is the most efficient way to send you a notification. The first time you login to the app and add the car to the app, it will register your phone's for push notification and Lexus will store that unique ID that got generated. After that the server will just push to that unique ID for you to get the information.
1. Unlock doors when approaching vehicle
2. Find my car using alarm (okay I must be old
3. What to do when using a Valet Parking
4. Only usable when in vehicle (or am I missing something)
I am sceptical of it's reliability as others have said. Phone dies, no cell service, app craps out. I mean here we are fussing this out and two of the worlds biggest companies haven't invested much of anything on this to solve these inherently week capabilities of this system. I'm sure they both are claiming technical safeguards are at the root of this, which interprets as Toyota doesn't trust Apple and Apple doesn't trust Toyota! However I can put a credit card on my phone and it works 99.99% of the time, no matter what happens to updates on my phone. Face ID is supposed to be extremely difficult to hack, so is fingerprints and Apple's encryption methods. Yet here we sit, concerned about it's ability to faithfully open our car door when we ask it too. I honestly think if a company like Toyota tasked Apple with theft prevention techniques for our cars they'd have it nailed pretty quick!!
Learning of the details from LSFT on how you receive alerts for your door locks and windows was interesting. I feel that this method for my use, is really slow I mean really slow, in reality. I've went into a store let's say with my doors unlocked, and about 15-20 minutes later I get told about it. Well I'm pretty sure a thief works much faster than that! Even a bad thief at that, could empty my items from the car in less than 30 seconds, so that's not that helpful.
