Make sure you are not confusing "eco mode" with "eco driving status". Both are dash indicators that say "eco" (sigh, kind of dumb, but a common Toyota thing) but mean two different things. The ECO mode light will come on when the vehicle is driving in ECO mode, and will remain so until Normal or Sport is selected. But the ECO driving status is another light that will come and go depending really on nothing more than how far down you press the gas pedal. This secondary eco light can be disabled from the vehicle settings if found confusing or annoying.
