@chas410 My suggestion would be to take a look at Dongar Technologies. They make a wire harness that is plug n play with your auto-dimming rearview mirror. It plugs inline with the power connection and provides a USB connection to power a dashcam. I needed to pop a hole in my center console for my aftermarket amp controller so I ended up routing my dash cam to the 12v socket in there too. You can use a mirror tap or harness for easy power but ideally, run it with a magic box or battery backup to 12v constant and switched power.
