Unhappy NX: not;impressed so far

I bought a 2017 CPO after my old MDX tranny blew. Initially I liked the car and decided on it over the BMW X3. I have a BMW 228 convertible and love it.
So far, after 15,000 miles I really think it is just ok.
1. The engine is weak. On hills it is anemic.
2. The transmission cant compare to the BMW 8 speed in any way.
3. The NAV is horrible. I won't even use it. My phone is better.
4. The stereo is just ok. With a disc, not bad. With XM, it's poor.
5. Seats are the best I have ever had. The fake leather is great.
6. Its been in the shop multiple times for squeaks that won't go away and they are back.
7. Headlights are great but should have auto-dimming at this price point.

I just got a huge offer from Tesla as a trade-in and am really thinking of going with a Model 3. I would go with the X3 but if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Sounds like you regret not getting the X3, my wife had a 2014 X3, we did not notice the X3 being any quicker, at least not by a lot anyways. We did not get the sport seats on the X3, so the NX's seat is much nicer. The X3's navi is also horrible as most factory units and the base audio system in the X3 is horrible, We have auto high beam on our NX and it works great, better than the auto high beam in my old BMW. If you like to pay a lot for poor built quality, Tesla is the way to go.

You bought a 5 year old used vehicle, what did you expect?!? I think your expectations were out of line. At the very least, didn’t do your homework. Get that Tesla, I’m sure you’ll be much happier. LOL

Beware that Tesla's trade in quote are only valid for 30 days or 1000 miles. If you're ordering a car from them, it is not going to be delivered in 30 days. On day 31 they will ask you to resubmit your trade. Don't be surprised if the trade value drops. They're as dirty as your traditional dealership. I had a 3 for 2.5yrs and got rid of it. They played the trade in game with me. Around March of last year I was just curious what they'll give me to trade the 3 and they came back with $34.5k. Then around October I requested a trade value again and to my surprise they gave me the same quote. I went ahead and ordered a car. On day 31 they asked me to resubmit and quickly dropped the trade in by $2k. I canceled the order immediately and lost the $100 order fee which is non refundable. That non refundable order fee is now $250. Beware. I'm not going to get into it, but out of the ~30 cars I've owned in my life, the 3 was the only car that has quirks that never stopped annoying me the whole time I had that car.

I have both NX and model 3. Tesla nowhere near in build quality, ergonomics and quality of materials. Tesla is loud car on highway, way more stiffer - which is bad if you do long trips. And if you didn’t have Tesla before, multiply advertised range by 0.8 for summer and by 0.6 for winter, to get the real world one.

NX offers luxurious and quiet driving, makes many imperfections on a road surface unnoticeable, all the controls right there where they need to be. Just as example, turn signal control plastic is so sharp in my Tesla that I am afraid to cut my finger every time I use it. It also requires different amount of force to start left and right blinkers. Tesla doesn’t have Windshield wipers physical controls and auto wipers is complete disaster. There are many-many small things which change overall experience, Lexus know what they are, Tesla doesn’t know as much yet.

NX is for rich people, who can afford gasoline, whose time is valuable and they cannot afford to spend hours on charging a car while on a trip.

If you need more power I would look into PHEV or pure gas NX, X3 or even Mercedes.

Go for the X3 for sure my friend has an X3 is much nicer than my NX. I test drove it handle much better and the interior feels more luxury but I am still happy with my NX spending only 2/3 of her X3.

had x5/q5/nx...both audi and bmw were more comfortable and user friendly...but they both brokedown more than twice each within 1st 24 months...under warranty but still. for longtime ownership get the lexus, but I really hate the lexus infotainment package. maybe 2022 models will get them caught up to rest of industry. have 60k miles on my 17 fsport awd nx...went to the dealership once for squeek on the tailget lift...lexus just put a new part in and havent heard a squeek again. bmw had constant headaches with the rear gate not opening or closin, the lights not working whenever they chose not too, some plastic interior panels vibrating and breaking apart....just a headache. the audi q5 was the sportiest and most comfortable and replaced the bmw x5...after 1yr it started having engine issues and lexus was hopefully l;ast/final brand in a 8 yr window. hope to run it 200k miles...so 10 more years...then it wall probably be hybrid/electric time...but still gonna make lexus top pick. i have owned lexus models since 93. grass always greener til its not lol.

As some say on the internet, Tesla is a battery company that just happens to make cars, Tesla knowledge of auto manufacturing is about 10 years behind the auto industry. Tesla quality control and workmanship is sub par, the one ipad instrument gauge and info center is horrible. As the Tesla's batteries ages, one can expect those 0.6 and 0,8 range multiplier to reduce even further.

All true. My dual motor 3 was rated 310 miles. Since new I've never gotten more than 270 miles out of it. By the time I got rid of it end of spring this year, the last time I drove it it went 95 miles using 40% of the charge, with the car claiming 260Wh/mile (or 3.85miles/kWh). Those numbers don't add up.

I disagree the engine is weak. Putting it in Sport mode changes the engine personality quite a bit. The 6 speed auto is just fine.

According to car and driver, The 2021 X3 does 0-60 in 6 seconds and the 2021 NX300 does it in 6.9. More of a difference than I thought but the 2022 NX should close the gap with the new powertrains.
