Default Towing Package - what is it?

Hi: We just bought a 2018 NX300. The owner's manual, at page 155, says do not use your Lexus to tow a trailer 'unless you have the towing package.' However, the 42 page marketing brochure says, at page 35, that a '2,000 pound towing capacity is standard on every NX' although it does qualify that elsewhere to say that for the NXh the towing capacity is only 1,500 pounds. So my question is 'what is the towing package?' And, what is necessary in order to connect trailer lights to the NX? In my 1999 RX it was a real pain to install the control unit; in my 2002 and 2003 RX it was quite simple, literally plug and play. Thanks.

Package is cooling system upgrade (larger radiator/fan), no hitch or harness included, and yes its a huge pain to install harness + control box in nx as well.

Not sure what you plan on towing, but I put an aftermarket hitch on mine but I plan to only use it for a 4-bike rack and nothing larger than that, if you plan on towing something bigger then you may need to be careful if you dont have the package.

I have towed this for thousands of miles without any issues. Just did all the fluids in the car and everything is clean and in good shape. Only issue was rear sag, airbags helped take care of that. This is 2100lbs fully loaded.
