I have not posted for a LONG time... so long that ClubLexus did not recognize my e-mail address and I had to re-register. The folks on this forum have been knowledgeable in the past and I hope that someone can assist with this issue.
I am looking to purchase a used Lexus NX. I found a 2016 vehicle that interests me but I am befuddled by the lack of three buttons I believe should be present:
This car (located at a non-Lexus) dealership has heated and ventilated seats and the 18 inch wheels with appropriate rims which demonstrates it has the premium package. It also has the touchpad which shows it has navigation. I am located out of state and have had a family member look at the vehicle. Here are photos showing the premium and navigation package indications (and the lack of the buttons to the left of the steering wheel):
This vehicle is reported through Autocheck as a two owner car with the first being a lease and the second being fleet usage for this dealership. The dealership does not know if/why buttons are missing and the salesman states there doesn't appear to be any wires sticking out. Am I unaware of something or should there be buttons like this?:
If the buttons are supposed to be present; can you think of any reason why they would be missing?
Thank you for the reply. The photo at the bottom of my post is from another 2016 NX for sale with premium package (but no navigation).
The vehicle does in fact have a power rear lift gate and blind spot monitoring as reported by my family member who drove the vehicle. But there are no buttons to activate...
All three of these are options on our premium package 2016. However, they are located on that missing panel, and the panel being open like that suggests the buttons have been removed. I presume you drove it and opened the rear hatch. So does the rear hatch have the button to close the lift gate? If it does, then it clearly has the power option and should have the button in that position you identified. Likewise, when you drove it you should have been able to confirm that it had blind spot monitoring. The park assist would have been less obvious as you would need to approach an object to see if it is active/working/installed. If this vehicle has those options installed, you should definitely have buttons in the missing panel you identified.
I did not personally drive the car, a family member did. They did confirm the power back door and even the non-Lexus dealer has a photo of the power button located on the rear hatch door. Your posting was most helpful in regards to the fact that I could enter the VIN on the Lexus website and see the original equipment. Doing so confirms that all three of the options were in fact included with the vehicle as built. Therefore, the mystery remains why the buttons are not present currently. I simply cannot fathom a scenario that does not involve some type of repair work wherein the buttons were not re-installed. Yet, the Autocheck report says no accidents (reported). Time to move off of this vehicle as a possibility... .

I tend to agree. Something isn't right here and I would be nervous about it. Glad I could help.
I am almost positive that the buttons are indeed their, but someone has pushed them hard (or slammed their knee into the dash) and the buttons have become dislodged and are inside the dash! Poke a flashlight in there, I am quite sure you'll find them. I've seen this very problem on an NX before.
This exact thing happened to me. One day I went to push a button and it felt weird. I looked closer and it was somehow no longer attached firmly. I can only think my knee hit it? I had to reach my hand underneath the console and up to push it back into a "locked" position.
Unfortunately, I am not in the same state to be able to look at the vehicle myself, but the top photo I posted shows the actual vehicle condition. To me, this does not look like a pushed in button condition. I will admit that I have pushed in a button in another vehicle of mine with my left knee a few times as well, but that does not seem to be the case here, given the photo and what my family and the dealer reported.
The first picture you can clearly see that the top row buttons aren't there.. The easiest thing if you were able to actually be with the vehicle is remove the lower dash. Takes all of about 4 minutes to do and you would see if the switches were just chucked in there loose and or not connected. They are held in by like two bolts and the harness will already be there. Should be very easy to remediate. But it does look like they got pushed in. If the place isn't willing to take the lower dash off and look for the buttons, walk away. Something as simple as that to check means that there is probably other crap they either don't know or are hiding... so don't take on someone else's problem vehicle...
Not even any screws retaining the switch assembly to the lower dash; just 4 plastic claws that become brittle as they age.
Excellent picture ,even better then! Sucks though that over time you are going to be correct and **** will be brittle.. but I guess we take it as it is.
OP. Have someone remove the lower dash. From the picture above it definitely looks like someone's knee could have hit it and it would have broken or pushed the clips and the buttons are somewhere floating back there.

Happened to me today, how did you get your hand up behind it? I do not feel any openings that a hand can get that far to it? I have a 2016 NX200t F Sport.
