Best Alarm System
Hello,
I'll preface this with the fact that my wife experienced a car jacking while driving her car as a teenager so safety and security is paramount.
My wife has the NX200t F-Sport with Nav and we're getting new wheels and tires, OE tires are coming to end of life. We would like to add the best security system we can to deter possible theft of the vehicle and/or wheels if possible. Already planning on installing 2 sets of wheel lock lug nuts to helpIhelp. it includes remote start, that would be a plus, but not necessary.
Also, if the system works with a proximity sensor like a fob that remains on person driving so that in the worst case scenario of a car jacking while engine is on, that the system would run for a short period of time (5 min)o before shuttingt off the engine.
I've done searching where there are separate systems, like the car alarm separate from a GPS tracker system, but would like advice from the community. If specific systems/examples could be provided, that would be great.

I'm under a different mind set I guess. If someone wants your car or wheels, they are gone. Alarms and wheel locks deter the more simple minded thieves to a very basic point. Adding nice expensive aftermarket wheels is going to attract someone to steal them. If someone wants your wheels they will have them off in under a minute or so even if you had wheel locks on all 5 of the lugs. It's super easy to get wheel locks off.
GPS is good cause you can track who stole the car, but to the same point. Do you want the vehicle back AFTER it's been stolen and god knows what has been done with it/to it?! I know if someone steals my vehicle, I don't want it back. I have insurance and they will take care of it. I'm sure you could get something that would disable the vehicle after said amount of time if it doesn't detect the key presence but like most systems. The key is need to start the car and you can drive away without the key... then when the car turns off and you attempt to turn it back on it won't because it doesn't have the fob. If someone wants to jack the NX while my wife and I are in it and they have a gun, you can bet they are getting the car. For as common as NX's are and they are EVERYWHERE, as long as we are unharmed, it's totally not worth it in any way to prevent it, unless you conceal carry and you know immanent danger is going to happen....
Just my .02 cents but the more stuff you do to a vehicle to make it look nicer the higher chance someone also thinks it looks nice and wants that stuff for themselves.

I agree with Nigel, if your car is the target, nothing you do will stop it from happening. While there are easier cars to steal than others, again, if for some reason your specific car from your driveway is the one, bye bye car.
Most important is to have an insurance plan that covers theft with little catches and to make your car look as common as possible. Making it flashy will both attract good and bad attention. This is critical, you want to enjoy your car not sit under a dark cloud worrying about it getting stolen.
It's also 2020, if I hear a car alarm go off and the siren doesn't sound like my car, I'm ignoring it. It's not the 90's, most people today HATE alarms and don't blink an eye. Modern day thefts are also silent, they're not smashing windows anymore, they're jacking RFID/wireless codes and literally opening your door and driving off.
That said, for peace of mind and convenience, I installed Viper SmartStart on my NX. Added two-way + GPS LTE connection which links with my phone. Subscription but worth every penny. I can remote start and track my car from almost anywhere in the US with cellular service.

I do appreciate the response and it definitely made me think twice about wanting or even needing one.

My wife and I both grew up in the 90's and also both into cars. We both had our tuner days and well now it's more about subtle tasteful upgrades. Definitely nothing flashy or over the top. But whatever we do, we try to secure them and yes we also have great insurance if all else fails.
That said, the Viper setup with Smart start and subscription is exactly what I'm looking for so thank you very much.
not sure what year your NX is, but newer models come with Enform subscription (or you can subscribe if it's not included) that you can track your car if stolen and do remote start (even from existing FOB) And then you have the SOS button available in the car.

Do you have a tilt sensor? My NX got towed, zero notifications from Viper SmartStart as I don't have a tilt sensor. I opened the app once I came out the restaurant to no car there only to see on the GPS feature it was in a tow lot far away from where I was.
