Default How Does Security System Work?

Hi guys I have a 2009 GS 350 and was wondering how the security system is set when it comes from the dealer/factory? I haven'e done anything with it to program or set it as I have just left it like so and I was wondering what would happen when my car is locked and someone smashed the glass and broke into it? Would the alarm go off or do I have to do something with the setting in order for my alarm to sound if someone were to break my glass?

the oem system is a passive system not active, so there is no shock sensor of any kind. people can hit your car or smash on the glasses and the alarm won't sound

but if your car is locked and alarm on, and then someone try to unlock it (say after the window smashed), the alarm will get triggered right the way, and the system will re-lock the doors multiple times a second to avoid the doors being opened

I think it must be different in the UK as my GS has internal movement sensors as standard.

Actually, I got shock sensors installed to my existing OEM alarm...It cost about $100. I am pleased with it...The only things is that there is a hidden switch to toggle this function on or off...guy said that the wiring on lexus was "different" than other vehicles...It works great...I also had this installed on my 08 forester, and I do not need the hidden toggle...

Alarm systems are useless no matter how much money you pay for one. They will not stop all but the most random drunken would be criminal.

true to a point. most of the time alarms are useless because think about how many times you hear an alarm go off and just ignore it. plus if the theif is determined enough, he will get what he wants.

my buddy actually had a great alarm on his old impala. it had a tilt feature so they couldnt flatbed the car. if the car lifted more than a certain amount of inches, the alarm would go off.
