Default Foam protective cover underneath passenger side came off

Good morning. First time poster. I own a 2015 Lexus NX200T and last weekend I heard a dragging noise. Got out and there is a hard foam cover underneath the passenger side. I removed it and threw it in the trunk. I have searched high and low and find nothing referencing exactly what this would be covering, and if this is something I need to get back on or not. My friend is a long time mechanic and he thinks it was just for wind resistance. But is there any sensors or important parts it would have been protecting from dirt / water?

Thank you! Sorry if this has been asked before, I tried searching and found nothing.

have your mechanic friend put the car on a lift and see where it came off from.

Looks like a splash guard that goes by the area of the passenger side tie rod end / axel. You may have run over something that ripped it down.

Sounds like the right placement. Urgent to get back in place? Or nothing much to worry about?
