Update.. Andriod Auto will be on any vehicle with gen-11. This will be The 2020 RX and all NX, UX, ES, or RC produced after Oct 2019. On top of that, the in-car wifi will be powered through AT&T after that production date.
Do you think an update will be available for 2019 NX300's at some point in the future for android auto? What does gen-11 mean? Is it different hardware?
Heard the news Lexus 2020 models will have android auto loaded including NX, any idea about support on older models such as 2018?
I spoke to a Lexus customer support tech division today. They informed me that they are working on a software update for Android auto and NX 300 which has Apple Car play, but gave no date as to the roll out. This is still positive news.
Android auto or apple CarPlay isn't that big of a deal. I have them in my current car and I don't use them.
I agree for the most part. I have Apple CarPlay on our ES and have tried it out but don’t find it particularly useful based on my needs, which rarely include GPS. I think that is where people especially appreciate these tools. My wife and I took two road trips last summer, one in the 2015 ES and one in our 2016 NX. We had the updated maps in both vehicles before these trips. The factory nav worked just fine for us. In fact, they were excellent, but they don’t show current traffic like Waze. If I lived in a busy metropolitan area, I might feel differently about CarPlay, but since I only use the nav on occasional road trips, it just doesn’t do anything for me and connecting the cable is a minor nuisance since I have to pull my phone out of a pocket and figure out where to route that cable and set the phone.
If you have a non-nav car, AA or CP can make a huge difference. If you are running a Gen 11 Nav car, Our Lexus system is by far better. If you have Gen11 nav and you don't feel so I would suggest you take some time on lexusdrivers.com and teach yourself how to take for advantage of it.

The Lexus Nav is ok but Google, Waze and Apple Maps are better. The split view with CarPlay is a big improvement. Much cleaner interface than Lexus. Voice control is also superior along with calendar integration.

Totally agree.. In no way can Lexus/Toyota keep up or be compared as better to Google/Waze. It's not ever happening. Yes it is nice but the real time traffic and constant updates that Google has will never be matched by a Car manufacture. I have to check with my wife to see if she updated her iPhone because I have not seen the split view which I keep hearing about. Seems like it's awesome. I've been on Android for ever, but I do think Carplay is much nicer interface over Android Auto. I can't just make the switch to Apple...lol
We live in Northern VA/DC... if you don't have Waze up all the time you are going to be stuck in traffic for hours because there is an accident or something ahead of your route. We never had issues with the stock Lexus navi but having Waze up is far superior after I updated the wife's NX with carplay. On top of that having Spotify and what not on the screen is nice. Why manufactures focus so much on their on infotainment system when they could EASILY just use Android Auto/Car play is crazy to me. Create a spot that I can stick my phone and it mirrors what I have on my phone with the screen in the vehicle. I love how there is no spot to put your phone in the NX, which seems like another huge oversight to me.
