I recently acquired a 2016 nx200t CPO with less than 15k on the ODO.

I noticed when I reverse and engage my break pedal and release I can hear the brakes make noise but its for a second - the sound sounds like connection and release. It doesnt vibrate it just sounds like the breaks making contact and then releasing.

Any idea what this could be?

This is typical Toyota brake clunking sound. Nothing to worry about.

 

Or the electric parking break motor disengaging if you use auto-mode

well it happens consistently when im in reverse. i can be in reverse go 2 feet brake (get noise) go 2 feet break (get noise) but it doesnt happen moving forward.

 

Normally, there is faint click when reversing. Reason being, brake pads are set on spring steel shims, between pad and brake bracket. Those do compress some when rotor rotation direction changes. Thjis been happening on Toyotas and Hondas for years and years. Without any problem.
But it should happen ONCE and done, not constantly clicking every time you step on brake pedal reversing.
Also, brake pads developed directional wear pattern. Hence, when you reverse, pads grab rotor "against the hair", producing sound. This is most noticeable for vehicles parked outsaide, as rotors build up some rust overnight. That noise is different from the previously described one - it's rub vs click.
eBrake should disengage the very moment you let go of the brake pedal and not produce any noises again.

Personally, I'd remove wheels and inspect brakes. It does sound like pads direction reset click. I bet, it's more faint inside, dampened by the vehicle. But it is there and surely is heck of annoying.
Considering it's under warranty, take it to dealer and let them have it. They are likely to tell you that it's normal, just like I said. Yep, but for SINGLE click, not consecutive ones. Looks like pads rebound back and reset every time you release brakes.
That's what you paid for. Get your money worth back out of them. Do not take NO for answer. It's brakes, your life depends on them. Dealers tend to go soft, when you loudly use words like SAFETY, LIFE THREATENING. And have every piece of documentation from them. Just in case. Nothing "on word". They say it's normal - On paper, please.

However, IMO if the nature of the problem is not due to wear and tear, your '16 NX has 4 years bumper to bumper warranty and within corresponding mileage limit. Since your ODO is only 15K and if the brakes don't work properly, I'd say you're covered under such warranty.

 

Pads are not covered under any warranty. they are normal wear item. But that is, when pads wear out and start making indicator noise. Not what you experience. That is different, that is brake system concern. And anything related to owner safety tends to be very sensitive with dealers, as if life happens, it's a hefty lawsuit following. So brakes, restraint systems, all that new radar cruise control, etc - anything safety is making them nervous.
You just need to play it right, as like I bet before - This is normal will be response.

 

What was the outcome of your dealer visit?

 

its at the dealer now. waiting for them to let me know what they think. have you had this issue before?

 

Well on the service sheet they addressed the front but they didn't seem to address the rear. So taking it back to the dealer.

Anyone have my same issue ? Any fixes out there?

the dealer just greased up the pads I think. Going tomorrow to pick it up so I'll see.

I just don't understand how a Lexus can do this....
