Would be a lot of work to totally redesign this system, and find a way to bootload custom firmware. That is why most would rather just do a hardware upgrade to grom/aliexpress.

Ironically I do actually have a Grom Vline2 on the way, so that solves basically everything I'd want to do with it. But I'm also a software engineer by trade, so designing my own infotainment screen is an intriguing thought.

That is neat, but software engineer and software hacker are not exactly the same thing I'm sure the bootloader is locked down and it would take some firmware/hardware hacking to find a way in. Toyota likes to encrypt things, thats why we didn't have access to tuning on toyota cars until fairly recently.
