If you hear the humming noise coming from the engine on the upper right (passenger side) then it is the vacuum valve regulator. apparently it has been a common issue. It's a very quick fix though....only took 30 min at my dealer and is under warranty. Engine is back to being quiet again.

It's because that's standard procedure for Lexus dealers. At least the 2 I've been using. 6 Lexus over 10 years, and I've still NEVER taken one in for a warranty issue that was resolved (or even acknowledged) on the first visit. On at least 2 occasions they initially told me they couldn't duplicate the issue, only to eventually tell me they we known issues on my models.

Vacuum Regulating Valve The Vacuum Regulating Valve (VRV) is a ECM duty cycled controlled device that limits the amount of vacuum going to the wastegate actuator. The VRV receives vacuum from the vacuum pump and check valve and provides this vacuum source to the wastegate actuator through vacuum lines in the system. During diagnosis of the turbocharger system, the VRV can be active tested. This active test is labeled as Wastegate Valve Control Duty Ratio.

I am on my 3rd regulator

I can hear the turbo whirling but engine seems loud for a $50,000 price tag vehicle.

Any thoughts?

are you satisfied with the ride quality on your f sport? i am looking at one this friday

Thanks vkliem21;

Mine still noisy little 4 cylinder. However i'm still impressed with the pulling power of this turbo 4 cylinder. I'm hoping for a recall but don't think it's coming. I past posting seems noise maybe coming from some sort of a butter fly valve feeding air intake in the back of engine. Anyway I have found the harder I drive the better the engine runs. Smoother engine and better response. Wondering if were babying this engine too much thinking it can't handle harsh treatment. Some engines like to a once and a while rev to it's limit when the limiter kicks in. Not a big fan of this but can tell you that it's a night and day when I have do so and drive it the next day. A real notice in the power and smoothness at a stop.

As far as ride and quality of my F Sport. I have about 12000 on the clock and its still tight. Little more wind noise than I expect from a Lexus. However rides and feels as smooth as the day I drove off the lot. Very pleased. Would like to see Lexus getting more into the SUV with a open bed like some sort of pick-up style. Well see.............

HI all, i posted on this thread 4 years ago about the humming noise and turns out it was a bad regulator valve. Fast forward to today and about 140,000 km later, the noise is back as seen in the video below. Just wondering if it will be replaced under any warranty? I live in Canada
