Here is the link to the Viper subscription plans:
http://www.viper.com/SmartStart/ServicePlans.aspx

For an equivalent Viper service it is $69 for 1 year or $140 for 3 years. But to get and install the Viper device you would probably spend between $250-$400 for the parts and installation.

Assuming you have your vehicle for 7 years:
Enform RES - 1st year free + $80 a year for 6 years = $480

Viper Smart Start - 1st year free Enform + $140 subscription twice + $300 to buy and install the parts = $580

Viper 2 way LED remote system (no cell phone interface) - 1st year free Enform + $160 parts (Amazon) + $150 installation = $310 + possible installation or bypass kits
(this system replaces your OEM Key Fob)

Everyone can download the Lexus Enform Remote App (OK, not Window Phone folks...) and check out the various additional features beyond Start/Stop/Lock. Car finder, Guest Driver and Vehicle Status are all interesting functions.

Why go for a subscription service? remote starter, with almost 1500 feet range (ideal situation) can be installed for less than $300. One time expense, no middle man and no dependency on that service provider's business plan changes.

well, look at it this way..

why pay $1200 + subscription fees for an aftermarket one

especially if you LEASE the car....

I'd rather pay $80 for 2 out of my 3 years on a lease instead of sinking money into it only for the next owner to enjoy using it!

I thin the solution you are looking at is similar to the Viper 2 way LED. I think it is about $300 for parts and installation of the basic unit. That may require an installation kit plus a bypass kit. My guess is it will cost you about $400-500 and probably will not use the OEM key fob. It is also a keyfob based remote starter and not offer the cell phone interface.

If you purchased your vehicle and intend to hold it 5-7 years and do not mind a keyfob based remote that replaces your OEM remote then it is fine.

Although your out of pocket is similar to the Lexus Enform remote costs you will have the ability to market your vehicle if you provately resell it as one with a remote starter that requires no subscription.

I am not sure what system will cost $1200 that the other poster mentioned but I can guess that is a super high end cell phone type system.

@wildeklave Lexus makes a stand alone remote starter module that uses the factory key fob for the 3IS. I don't know why they didn't offer one for the NX, specially in markets where there is no Enform.

There are other after market module that will also allow you to retain the factory fob to start the car, and they are priced similar to factory option, but they are harder to install. Doing some research and will post results when something pans out.l

Not sure where you came up with that number... Must have been a typo.

You obviously missed my point about the Enform remote start app not working half the time and when it does it takes up to a minute or more....

I can't get the key fob remote start to work. Do you wait for the beep before pressing it again, or is it 3 quick presses? How long do you hold the button down on the last press?

I believe the Lexus key fob remote start is not available on the NX yet.

It works on mine. I just use two quick pushes then hold for a 3 count on the third push and let go.

That number is how much the old RES+ system was installed for the RX/GX/LX models...

I've never had any problems with it not starting for me for the app or from my key fob

Clearly there is some inconsistencies here.

Touche.

Doesn't change the fact the RES (Lexus part) for the 3IS dealer installed for ~$400. The ADS aftermarket remote start with factory remote integration can be bought for ~$60 on Amazon and installed professionally for ~$150 or DIY (requires a ~$40 programming cable) for free.

Really don't get where he got the $1200 from and then trying to justify it by comparing to a factory integration solution with models that really didn't easily allow remote bypass functionality.

Agreed. I would always opt for a manufacturer-installed option over an aftermarket one unless, of course, the aftermarket one was vastly superior in function to the other.
