2019 NX300 EPB Malfunction
Hello Everyone! Need some help!
I completely screwed up. Replaced the rear brakes without setting rear brakes to service mode first. I looked it up and did the procedure once the caliper was off and it ended up pushing the piston out. Long story short, I ended up buying a new caliper set up. Installed everything. Checked that everything was properly connected and bolted on. Now I can’t get rid of the EPB malfunction. What am I missing? I haven’t fully bled all brakes. Could this be the culprit?

You can reset the "Electronic Parking Brake Malfunction" code without the dealer or TechStream. I have a 2017 NX200T. I had the same problem today. I was replacing the rear brakes and put the vehicle in service mode (without TechStream, manual process). I heard the rear caliper electric motors turning but the calipers did not compress.
Service Mode Procedure:
- Jump 4 & 12 terminals in OBD port
- Vehicle on ignition,
- Pull EPB 3 times, push down 3 times and then push and hold within 8 seconds
I thought it was stuck and needed assistance so, I removed the rear calipers (with the electric motor) and put the vehicle in service mode thinking it would compress if I assisted turning with my hand. When I started the service mode procedure the opposite happened for some reason. The piston started fully extending. Eventually, the piston came off from the bolt that is held by a T-40 torx screw.
I thought I may have to buy a new caliper but was able to rebuild the caliper by removing the electric motor loosening the 5mm allen screw. Once the electric motor was removed, there is a T-40 torx screw/bolt. I loosened it until the piston was fully unscrewed and pulled the piston out from the rubber boot. Note: the T-40 torx bolt is held by a C-clip and has two washers sandwiched by a needle bearing if this comes out of the caliper. I removed the C-clip but this is not necessary. I then stretched/widened the rubber boot and had an assistant put the piston back in the slot. Once in the slot, I tightened the T-40 torx bolt and pushed the piston by hand (once seated, it fell into the slot). I then used a brake caliper tool to help assist it to go back in/compress while I was tightening the T-40 torx bolt. Once fully tightened, the piston was seated fully. I installed the new rear brake pads repeating the steps on the other side and bleed the rear brakes like any other vehicle (in ACC mode press the brake pedal ~5 times and hold and have someone loosen the bleeder valve, repeat ~ 3 times). When I started the vehicle, the "Electronic Parking Brake Malfunction" light came on. Electronic Parking Brake Malfunction Reset Procedure:

- Turn the ignition ON
- Pull the park switch back (towards me) five times within five seconds
