Would you buy another NX ?
Hi,
My ride is a 2016 NX200T with 100k trouble free kms ( 62k miles). With the exception of a windshield replacement from a stone chip, its only on-going expenses are regular oil/filter changes and premium gas. Still riding on factory Michelins rubber and original brake pads front and rear. New plugs @ 60k kms as per service manual and that's it.
Since its a 1st gen vehicle and I'm well aware of what 1st gen introductions can be like ( horror tales from other major car mfg'ers ) I'm curious as to what other owners opinions are and their experiences with this model were. Is it a highly recommend or a never again ?

190k kms and owned since new.
Unexpected repairs:
Engine dropped twice for rear main seal. 1st time covered under good will. 2nd time $3000 Aus.
Lock actuator rear door $700
Centre arm rest leather(really vinyl) cracked. $1200
Recalls:
Fuel pump. This was the most frustrating problem as would not start in very cold weather if car ungaraged. Took several visits to dealer and many weeks in service department before recall issued and sorted problem.
TSB:
Turbo exhaust thingy for hesitation under hard acceleration.
Regular Maintenance:
Battery: Every 3 years. Dealer says the thing eats batteries. Tried a you beut deep cycle $2000 battery. No difference still lasted 3 years. Apparently its the draw from the stop start system.
Tyres: Heavy car. Always quality Michelins. Every 3 years.
Brake pads. Fronts wear heavily. Rear ok. Not too bad only changed twice so far front and back.
Servicing:
Not cheap but exceptional service.
Good car. OK reliability. Expensive to maintain now.
Great dealer experience. Always provided replacement car. Went into bat against corporate for good will repairs and TSB.
So yes, new one on order. Hybrid this time.
YES. I would consider purchasing again.
I have a 2020, currently with 75k miles.
I'm on the original Michelin tires, with probably another 6-12+ months left on them.
I've had NO problems with the vehicle whatsoever.
I change the oil/filter every 5k (Mobil1 synthetic and OEM filters), and air/cabin filters regularly.
I changed the brake pads at around 70k, and they still had life left to them!
I changed the plugs TWICE already (at 35k & 70k). I believe the doc recommends at 40k.
Easiest oil change and spark plug procedures of any vehicle I've ever owned.
Regular inspection and cleaning of engine compartment.
Regular inspection and topoff (distilled water) of battery.
Regular wheel rotations (incl. proper torquing), vacuuming and cleaning of interior.
From the little I've read about the NX, it seems the earlier models (i.e. 2015/16) had a bunch of quirks that the later ones don't have. That's just my perception.

@miop4000 Your unit must have been made on the last shift of a Friday nite and I admire your faith in the Lexus brand to order another NX albeit a hybrid. And yes, I too would buy another NX.
FWIW my daughter bought a 2019 Rav4 hybrid ( 1st year of 1st gen hybrid ) and she loves it. No complaints of breakdowns at all.

We have a 2016 Nx200t. I believe the 2015 and 2016 had some engine issues. It's the first turbo I have bought in years and will never happen again. A lot of things I feel are poorly designed. No, I will not ever buy this car again or any other 4 cy turbo.
I feel the Lexus quality is not what it was 10 years ago. I also have a 2015 Lexus Rx350 that I will never sale. Dependable V6 and 6 speed transmission. The new Lexus will never have as few problems as this one.

Would help to point out what the problems are instead of just saying I don't like it? I enjoy my nx, its not perfect, but hard to find a perfect car. I tow extensively with mine a large camper since new and have not had any issues so far. Brakes upgraded to powerslot heavy duty, rear springs upgraded to 1" lift from the rav4 and coilrite airbags. JB4 tuner box for good measure. I wish the trunk was bigger, I wish we had heated and cooled seats, don't care for the moonroof, wish it had a little bit more oomph off the line. Other than that maintenance easy, don't even have to lift the car up to do an oil change. Only recent maintenance item was rear sway bar links. Coming from a 1993 gs300 (best built), 2008 is350 "surprising amount of recalls on the 3.5l v6 but it was fast" and now the nx. NX has seen the fewest visits to the dealer yet and at least 1 or 2 of those were for software only updates.

2016 NX200T w/83000 miles, daily driver, car has been a pleasure so far, average 27.3 mpg premium gas only. All service maintenance done by Lexus only. No issues, and I drive on a so so maintained roads with many pot holes in the country. I keep wondering why this car still drives so solid and smooth. Seems to be built like a tank, I'll probably never get rid of it. Happy customer!
I have now changed my answer to a new NX to no since my post on July 2024.
1. The new NX hybrids are still hard to get and prices while on order have now increased to over 6 figures here in Australia! In addition in the coming months Australia is removing price incentives for hybrids which will lead to a further price increase.
Thanks current American leadership.
2. The cost of my last NX standard service was $1000 plus.
Also front rotors needed replacement.
3. The new scheduled services prices are now 2.5 to 3 times of that of an Equivalent Toyota. Was 2x.
4.Euro prices for a similar sized and power vehicle are now less.
Still staying in the Lexus family, however. Have a great relationship with my service department and have always busted a gut to keep me on the road.
Skipped the horrible UX and have ordered the much cheaper LBX.

General rule of thumb is never to buy the 1st year of any new model, regardless of manufacturer, as there will be bugs that need to be ironed out. I typically will also skip the 2nd year and go for the 3rd year.
As far as buying another NX, this is my first Lexus and so far so good, but I will most likely opt for a non-turbo V6 my next go around (if the future NX's comes with this larger engine, then yes, otherwise, it will be a different model).

Not sure if you were going for a NX 350h or a 450h+ but I checked the 6 figures assuming the lowest 100,000 AUD = $62,730 USD
I just priced the 2025 NX 350h in my local area and got the figures below for a used 2025 350h with 4k miles selling for $50k and 450h+ for $65k USD so, we’re not far off from you if it was a brand new 350h or 450h+.
I almost feel like you had a good case for the Lemon Law with your original NX compared to other comments from same MY owners I’ve seen throughout CL.
You just happened to get “that bad apple” amongst the good many…
I feel bad for your NX experience and glad you were treated well by the Lexus dealership near you.
They haven’t sold the LBX in the States yet, but the interior is exciting to see as it’s so different/unique from the other SUVs.
I’m surprised by what you said about the UX, as I don’t think they have that bad of a rep here in the States since it evolved from the CT.
I hope you have a much better experience with whatever Lexus model you choose and I appreciate you staying faithful to the brand.
2017 NX200t used as a commuter.
It’s a cool car. Really like the look of it. The full speed radar adaptive cruise is great (no subscription needed for it either like the new ones). Only regular maintenance thus far @ 90,000 miles.
Idk if I’d do the 200t again - I’d probably go for the 300h or Venza if I could find one.
Will most likely replace it with a fully electric car to have an electric commuter instead of gas. RZ looks cool - but in NO rush

Our 2021 NX300h has been rock solid reliable. Though it is still fairly new and still under warranty, we have no complaints. That being said, if our vehicle were to be totaled in a collision tomorrow or if the same would happen to our car, I would replace either vehicle with a newer generation four cylinder RX Hybrid. Honestly, we love the NX, but we wouldn't mind a slightly bigger vehicle on the next round.
Got the first one in 2015 and it's the best vehicle I have ever owned. Ten years and still runs perfectly and never spent any money on it over regular maintenance.. Thinking about getting a new car but can't decide what I want. May move up in size this time but just haven't been able to let go of this thing yet!!!
