Default oil change frequency now 6 months?

I have a 2018 NX300, annual mileage is 10,000 km / 6500 miles. I just called to book my 6 month maintenance and was told the dealer now recommends oil changes every 6 months for NX's, given the engines run hot and the oil can be extremely dirty at the 12 month mark. Getting it done twice a year will protect the engine. The factory still recommends oil changes at 12 month intervals.
Has any one else been told this? It's an extra $200/year for a second oil change, so not much in the grand scheme of things, but trying to assess if this is a cash grab or if it's a real necessity.

If the dealer is telling you something different than your factory maintenance schedule, then the dealer is just trying to squeeze extra $$ out of you

Yep. If the OCI was actually changed, Lexus would issue a Service Bulletin about it.

Personally, I think I'd do every 5,000 miles or 6 months regardless of what the dealership says, but I am also not the average driver.

I'd just do whatever interval you feel comfortable with. It is your car and up to you how you maintain it. To keep your warranty, all you need to do is change the oil every 10,000 miles (or 12 months).

I generally stick to the factory manual on my cars.

For both my F-150 and my 540i, 12 months or 10,000 is the standard.

Factory always knows best. Follow what is says. Anything else is almost always someone trying to extract money through fear.

Thanks everyone for the replies and confirming my instinct was right. If I putting a lot of mileage on it or driving it rough I'd probably feel different. Times are tough for everyone now, including dealers

Boomer FUD has a lot of power over people.

I've got people telling me I should be flushing my transmission every 30k miles on my truck. Manual says fluid change(not flush) at 150K. I'll probably do it early at about 120K but I've not seen any actual evidence I need to do it every 30k.

If in Canada, I thought it’s 8,000 km or every six months whichever comes first. Before COVID, 8K km was about four months for me but now with some WFH, six months comes first.

if you really want to know whether your existing oil change interval is causing any harm just send in your oil for analysis! blackstone is a great company for this, there's others but they seem to be "the place" as far as oil analysis is concerned... it's like $30 and i've done so for both of my cars
