Sorry to hear about ur ticket bro. There's some misinformation floating around here though--yes, you could have been arrested, but the speed you were going is not relevant. A summons is in lieu of arrest and you can actually be put through the system for any type of traffic infraction. The poster above is correct with the 6 points or more in 18 months, the state will rape you for 3 years.
Since you indicated it is in a 50 zone, I'm assuming it happened in New York City? I'm not a lawyer but I know TVB inside out and not from appearing there as a defendant...send me a PM.
