What're your preferred backroads, in NYC?

I have had to wait for my GS400 for sometime now. I still won't be able to get it for another couple of weeks and every day it's eating me up inside. So whilst i wait, i might as well get some good useful info since i plan to get to 'know' the car very thoroughly once it's mine.

I'm married, so i don't want to get speeding tickets just because i'd not want to hear it from the wife. The only thing that stinks about NYC, driving wise, is that there aren't very many exciting highways. The LIE is a parking lot and the deeper you go into the island, the more chances of running into troopers.

I have found a little section of the Clearview Expwy to always be traffic-less and pig-less. It's toward the end going to Nassau, but i reckon i might only be able to hit 100 or so. WHen i drive down Hempstead Tpk, i can't help but notice the gigantic empty parking lot in Belmont raceway. ONce i figure out how to get down there, i'm gonna test out the 0-60 and do some slaloms.

But enough about me. What are your most preferred roads in which you feel comfortable putting your foot down?

bqe - 130+
westside highway - 110+
fdr - 100+
i forgot what its call the connection between whitestone and the van wyck - 100+
lie from 108 to last exit before nyc - 120+

it all has to do at what time of the night...

the turnpike is def. my favorite but if you want to check out the handling hit the fdr the turns along with the traffic will let you know if the car is capable. i also like the major deegan for 100+ speeds

Jackie Robinson (used to be the interboro) - takes you from Bklyn to Queens / LI, etc. Has nice series of tight left/right curves (about 6 or so). Real nice little section to test your suspension.

yup..jackie /interboro. and the fdr .. i would agree as far as testing the suspension...

I wouldn't suggest Jackie Robinson until you have the turns memorized. There really isn't much room for error considering there is no shoulder and only 2 lanes.

I prefer Southern State out in Suffolk county late at night. There are certain parts where there is no shoulder and the trees grow right up to the road. This makes it impossible for any police to hide on the side.

I second the Southern State at 2 in the morning, I can usually make a booty call run from my house in Richmond Hill (Van Wyck Expy) to Exit 43 in about 17mins with no worries

When i had an Integra, i took it to 110+ coming off the GCP, it's the stretch where it leads to a small section where there is no shoulder, right before the Queens blvd exit. I chose that road because it was like 4am and i knew no cops could pop up out of nowhere.

I also favor the NJP but don't get too many chances to drive on it very late at night. I also see at least 2 or three cars get pulled over on it. I have heard stories about the Jackie Robinson so i will venture into it, slowly at first, and try not to get lost in Brooklyn.

A couple of more weeks. A couple of more weeks...

driving at excess speeds in uncontrolled environment is plain dumb!!
ease off the gas and heavy on the brakes. You could save a life including your own.

LIE from Queens center mall to midtown tunnel. I've pinned my speedometer many times on that strip. Late nights are ideal.
Late night southbound on the FDR is like a tokyo racing game. Nice lights, twist, overpass, huge potholes to dodge. Be careful of baconboy where the fdr meets the triborough bridge exit.

i agree with LIE towards Manhattan, after the Queens Blvd entrance all the way to Midtown tunnel.
You can reach speeds of 120+ easily...

hey newyorkers ... lets do a run sometime ... anyone interested?

I've tried on Hylan Blvd in Staten Island at bout 2 or 3 in the morning hit 135 in my accord but i wouldnt reccommend it, dangerous and a lot of cops right after I slowed down I saw a cop. Hit 125 on the FDR against an 04 maxima. I like the belt late at night after Bay parkway exit up until coney island exit can hit 100+. NJTP is sick especially at 2 in the morning. Make sure that u have a good radar detector so that you can avoid some of those tickets. i also like flyod bennet airport, the airplane runway at the end u can hit pretty close to 110 but u better have good brakes but ur gonna have a lot of rock chips after that. I dont like the Jackie robinson btw. its really scary u better know exactly where that turn is and how to navigate it. there is no room for error. I ve seen several accidents where the people never made it out.

lots of people lose their lives in the jackie, you better know those turns really well if you are thinking of trying it
