Default Visiting New York: Hotel recommendations

I posted this in the NorthEast regional section...but I think I will get more views here. (mods, please delete the other thread)

I will be visiting New York for the very first time in my life in mid-December.
Here is what we're planning to check out:
1. Statue Of Liberty
2. Ground Zero
3. Rockefeller Center
4. Time Square
5. Subway system
6. Central Park
7. ?? recommendations

There will be a total of 8 of us (4 couples). We're thinking about staying in Manhattan...are we walking distance from the list above or am I way off??

PS..staying for 4 days.

What hotels would you recommend, looking for suite at a nice hotel?

Thanks in advance.

Most of those places are within the same area, if not you can get to them by subway or ferry. There is one really nice hotel but I can't think of the name, I think it's on 40th or 42nd. You can always stay at the Trump.

statue of liberty and ground zero are close to eachother

and

3,4,6 are close together - take a horse and carriage ride at 6 - i think they are located on 59th street (correct me if im wrong)

use 5 to get everywhere (take a taxi ride too!)

be sure to try the chicken and lamb over rice at 53rd and 6th! best food from a street vendor whether u go to the famous 53rd and 6th stand (only go after 7 to ensure u get the famous stand and not the impostor) or to Shendy's stand located on the opposite corner. Make sure to get the white sauce (extra) and the hot sauce is SPICY!

good luck on your trip

I've been traveling to NYC every other week for the last few months and stay in hotels in the area...

What's your budget? Depending on the week the hotel prices in Manhattan can spike significantly (make your reservations now) ranging from $180 - $600/night. Some of the more popular weeks its hard to find a place available under $300/night. This is for a small 'regular' room, not a suite.

Lol, except for that little 'river' separating them. Just make sure your hotel is close to the subway lines and you'll get around. With a group that size it may be more practical in some cases just to get the hotel to arrange a van or limo.

haha, well yeah, but as long as your all the way downtown, might as well kill the 2 birds with one stone. you will get the statue of liberty ferry at battery park - directions to battery park from Ground Zero are here.

btw.. let hopstop.com (if you don't know about it) be your friend and travel companion when using the subway/trains/railroad. it hasnt let me down since i found it.

If possible, we're looking to keep it under 900/night for a suite. We'll be staying Saturday-Wednesday...so I figure the Sunday-Wednesday rate should be lower?

5 of those 6 are located in Manhattan. I suggest that you stay somewhere in midtown Manhattan. The subway will get you to all those places with no problem plus it's a great experience Depending on your budget as Dave said, there are numerous hotels available in Manhattan.

Check here, this may help.

Speaking of food stands, does anybody know of a guy named Monsul(if I'm spelling it correctly)? He had this crazy mix, I think it was chicken, cabbage, fries and some "special" sauce. May have been on 8th but not sure.

Right next to my office. The Waldorf-Astoria. Bush stayed there last week during the U.N. meetings. Actually, most foreign dignitaries stay there when in town. The change one of the flags flying in the front of the building to the home country of the dignitary currenty staying.

Plus, I can show you around on lunch a bit!
