there are so many in NYC that its impossible to list all of them. I'm constantly picking up over 5-10+ networks in most of the places that I go.
NY Public Libraries are great
Bryant Park -– The whole park is a wifi hotspot.
union square park – The whole park is a wifi hotspot.
Lincoln Center Park -- Near Avery Fisher Hall at 10 Lincoln Center Plaza.
you can also use google maps to find free wifi spots...

Well I've got a couple for you if you come out to Brooklyn.
Emmons Avenue ( Southside Brooklyn )
Tons of restaurants, lounges, cafes, Thursday night kareoke(sp), party boats, diners, etc.
Everything all on one strip and right on the bay. Tons of parking but still a PITA to try and find a open spot on weekends. If you've never been to Emmons Avenue before then you should def visit. There's also a newly renovated movie theatre 5 minutes away (United Artists).
Bayridge
BARS. BARS. & MORE BARS. Tons of lounges, restaurants, cafes. Not too far from the Pavillion.
Williamsburg
Pretty trendy upcoming neighborhood with tons of restaurants and bars.
Coney Island
Probably the most recognized part of Brooklyn. Astroland, Nathans, the Cyclone etc. There's fireworks there every Friday night. Unfortunatly everything is about to end being that summer is almost over.
I could probably make a 10 page essay with all the places that you can visit in Brooklyn. If you ever deciede to come down and want some more spots to visit give me a hollar ;]]
I might edit this later and add some more places but I gotta get back to work for now.
