Description:
For sale is a 1998-2000 Lexus GS300/400 Pioneer head unit that I modified with the JayNunu aux jack mod featured in the ClubLexus GS - 2nd Gen (1998-2005) subforum.
This head unit is in excellent cosmetic condition and is ready for plug-and-play use. For the aux jack, I mounted it completely flush with the bezel of the head unit for an OEM-quality appearance.
Once an aux cable is plugged in, the AM/FM/TAPE modes will all output the sound playing from whatever device is connected to the aux cable. If you want to use AM/FM/TAPE normally, simply unplug the aux cable.
There are a couple of illumination/LCD issues to note:
The first is the bulb that illuminates the POWER-VOL **** will need to be replaced. It burned out and I didn’t have a chance to replace it before swapping out this head unit altogether for an aftermarket upgrade.
The other is the common issue with the Lexus head unit LCDs from this era where segments of the numbers/letters fade over time. I replaced the LCD with a brand new unit from Pioneer in 2014. When I removed this unit in 2019, one of the segments, the topmost horizontal segment in the character one space to the left of the first 8 in 88.9 (see photo of unit installed in my car for reference) was intermittent and would sometimes flicker. That LCD segment is never illuminated in FM mode so it didn’t bother me, but as we all know, this issue has the potential to get worse over time. However, I wasn’t planning to spend the money on yet another new LCD from Pioneer and resolder the circuit board connector yet again.
This unit is very clean without any scratches, stains, or grime, so it would be a good candidate for replacing your existing head unit while adding the versatility of an aux jack. If you’re handy with electronics and willing to open this head unit up, you could swap out the left **** bulb and/or replace the LCD with a fully working one pretty easily.
Price is $75 OBO. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail.
