I'm sorry......I meant to ask if our trannys are allowed to use Dexron3. If so.....can we use Mobil1 Synthetic ATF? I got confused with another discussion about power steering fluid from another thread. Sorry about that.

No, not compatible for the tranny. Stick to Type-IV or Amsoil.

True.

We were actually seeing over in the RX300 forum if anybody had done this in using the Mobil 3309.

BTW, I do remember two Harrier owners (diplomats who brought their vehicles over from Asia) who used Mobil 1 ATF in their trannies, they left Mexico so I never knew how it turned out (maybe I don't want to know).

No luck. I set out to the local AutoZone & Strauss auto before.

Strauss had nothing.

Autozone didn't have any Type IV fluid. The guy in autozone showed me something that had "+4" and said "this will work".

Ummm, no thanks.

I think I'll just get it from the local dealership....sigh....$8/quart....such a freaking rip off!

I have never seen the Type-IV outside of a Toyota/Lexus dealer.

I pay about $8 USD a quart down here, too at Toyota. Might go get some tomorrow or this weekend.

Lexus & Toyota dealers sell the same exact Type-IV fluid, correct? Maybe if I stop by a Toyota dealer, I'll luck out and will be able to get it for *gasp* $7.00/qt.

Does anyone know if this is the parts number? 00279-000T4-01

I don't know offhand without looking at one of the bottles, but I buy my Type-IV here and it looks just like the bottle at Lexus in the states, but in Spanish of course.

My father used to buy me brake pads for a Highlander (since it is similar to the RX300) at Toyota and at a cheaper price.

I'm still waiting for a DIY on the new generation "sealed" trannies that have the WS fluid. ie. all the 3.5L toyota/Lexus engines, and 2.5L IS engine!!!

Update: Did a drain & fill today.

Toyota T-IV fluid.
Cost @ Lexus dealership: $9
Cost @ Toyota dealership (2 blocks away): $5.25

Drain: exactly 3 quarts
Fill: exactly 2 quarts

Checked it and it was at the HOT mark.

I decided to take it out for a spin and after a 30 minute drive (pretty hard at times), I checked and it was still at the same HOT mark. Weird huh?

I guess I'll check again in the next few days.

Just drained and filled my RX300 transmission at 86K with Amsoil and I can feel the shift delay is gone. I used to replace transmission fluid every 30K with Toyota T-IV and won't go back :-)

I'm at 33K and scheduling to have this done. Quick question, dealer of "trusted" local mechanic?
