Headlight Condensation
I hope this is the right forum to bring this issue to. I see this as common problem and not just with my specific car. I own a 2015 Lexus GS 350 F-Sport. I purchased it CPO from the local Lexus dealer over a year ago. I also purchased the extended warranty. I wanted to get the opinion of the general consensus here on my issue. I have a headlight with condensation buildup. So bad that the LED running light is now burned out. I guess I let it get go unchecked for too long, but with everything shut down due to Covid-19, I felt at the time it was not important enough. I had the headlight bulb replaced by the dealer back in October prior to the issue. I noticed the condensation buildup not too long afterwards. With everything opening back up, I recently brought the car in to have the headlight repaired, assuming this fix would be covered under my warranty. I mentioned to the service tech that I had the bulb replaced and that may have been the culprit. The issue got pushed up the ladder to the service manager. He informed me that the issue was NOT a result of the bulb change NOR was it a warrantied item as it was a damaged headlight housing. He said the culprit was blunt force trauma to the headlight lens and showed me some minor scratches on the lens. The condensation was seeping in due to the fact that the seal on the housing was compromised from the strike that occurred. He informed me that the headlight needed to be replaced and the cost was in the $2500 range. I said, are you crazy? I told him that I did not hit anything, nor do I remember anything striking the lens. What do I do?
1. Dry out the headlight, seal the top with glue, and cross my fingers?
2. Purchase a used headlight from a junk yard?
2. Purchase an aftermarket headlight? Does anyone make an aftermarket headlight for this car?
3. Send the headlight out for repair? Is there a shop that specializes in headlight housing repair?
4. Claim it on my car insurance as an accident, and accident that I was not in?
5. Go after the dealership in small claims court. I believe I purchased a CPO car that was potentially in a front end collision, shoddy front end paint job and damaged front emblem in addition to the headlight housing damage.
6. Just suck it up and purchase a new factory headlight.

I would remove, thoroughly dry, reseal, allow to fully cure, reassemble and move on with life. The taillights on my Cadillac have a reputation for developing leaks that result in severe moisture accumulation that makes this look almost like a non-issue. Unfortunate this somehow managed to occur but that’s the risk in purchasing anything used and as complex as a car.
Kick it up to Lexus corporate. They will replace headlight under warranty. This is compete dealership nonsense.
I bought a cpo ls 460, 60k service was included but dealer refused to honor it (retail price for 60k service is close to 1500$ and they did not want to eat that cost). I called lexus and complained, the next day the service manager offered to come pick up my car, service it and drop it off.
Lexus sold you a car with a defective headlight, you did not damage it. They need to fix it. The reason the dealer is giving you a hard time is that Lexus will make them eat part of the cost of replacing this headlight ( either labor or partial cost of the headlight).
