Default Brake light warning on dash!

I have a warning light of a car with its rear light shining. I checked all the rear bulbs (brake light, rear lights, backup lights, license plate lights) and they are working. The light does not come on everytime but only when I push the brakes and open the passenger rear door.

This is very strange. I had an accident on that door and they took all my old parts out and put it on the new door. I was wondering if the sensor runs through this door. Do you guys have any idea what is wrong with my car?

LS400_96,
Sounds like the wires to the brake fail safe sensor is frayed near the area of the rear door. When you open the door and press the brakes, the sensor then shorts and causes the dash brake light to come on. Was there more damage then just the door? Was the B-pillar damaged, frame rail ? In any case, contact the shop that did the repair and have them fix the problem. They should have checked/replaced any part of the wiring harness that was crimped, frayed.

Regards

Well, the rear passenger door and quarter panel was damaged. They took some stuff out of the trunk to fix the damage. Does any wire run through the trunk? I know that the sensor is somewhere around the trunk (maybe driver's side not sure).

LS400_96,
Definately alot of wires and harnesses in and around the rear bulkhead ( behind the back seat ) I don't have a 96 LS and don't have the electrical troubleshooting manual for your car, but when they welded the new quarter panel or repaired the original, they probably did not check the wiring that runs behind it for damage ( or caused it during the welding process). Again, I say it's the body shop's fault. Have them do a supplemental write-up for the insurance company and fix it.

Regards
