Default Headlight Washer works intermittenty

My headlight washers only seem to work intermittently. Probably about 1 out of every 10 times I press the button it actually works. (Yes my fluid level is up) and my windshield washers work fine.

I'm not sure if anyone will have any answers for this as I don't think Lexus sold vehicles in the US with this option.

Here is a pic I found in a previous post.

Can you hear the pump running each time or does the pump only run on the 10th time too.

If the pump runs each time you try to wash it and no fluid comes out, then it sounds like a similar problem that I had on a previous car (not Lexus). The fluid was not staying in the lines after each headlight wash. The fluid would drain back out due to a crack in a T fitting in the washer fluid line leading to the headlights. It took a couple of hitting the switch to get the washer fluid up to the nozel. Then when done, the fluid slowly drained out over time. So every time I used them, it took multiple times at the switch until it came out the end.

It took a lot of tracing/following the lines to find the spot that needed patching. I eventually blew some compressed air into the nozel with a shop compressor and a rubber tip to see where the air was coming out of the lines.

Good luck.

Good ideas Steve, but another cause could just be a clogged nozzle tip. Try using a thin sewing needle to loosen anything that has clogged the tip over the years.

You're trying to wash with the lights on aren't you? My '98 GS300 will only wash the lights if they are on, even if the headlamp switch is set to AUTO they still don't wash unless it's dark. Doesn't seem to do much except spray a nice mist of fluid over the bonnet and sometimes my wife if I time it just right!

Got her 3 times now

If it's not that, then it must be a seized pump or maybe a blown fuse.

The pump only seems to run the one out of 10 times I hit the button. Yes my headlights are on (i'm not sure if that makes a difference or not) Do you think it's possible it's the switch itself? or maybe the pump.
I don't feel like taking it to the dealership for this type of a problem, not worth the money for them to . The reason I want to get my headlight washers working is because my friend has a 300ZX with headlight washers and the casing broke that covers one of his headlight washers and instead of the water shooting back at his headlight it shoots straight out like a water cannon ( it actually reaches about 20-30 feet) So I figure if I can get mine working properly again I will just break the casing off and aim it outwards so I can have a water cannon as well. I'm pretty sure it's not a clogged nozzle as I stuck a pin through it a few times just to make sure and when it does work water still comes out with a lot of pressure.
