I have a 99 LX and when I had the oil changed at Toyota they tell me I have 10 to 15% brakes left. They want like $700 to do front and back. My question - has anybody gone to a reputable brake place instead of a dealer? if so did you have a good experience? How much were they ? Where at? Thanks
Do you have any pulsation when you applied the brake? If you have pulsation/vibration when applied the brake then the rotors need to resurface that why it expensive. I recommend the dealer to do the job because the front rotors are the hardest one to do due to the All Time 4WD on your vehicle. The brake shop may cost you more money in the long run by using cheap brake pads and they may try to sale you some caliper overhaul(when you don't need).
actually he said my rotors are good and there is no pulsation at all. He said the big expense is the 5+ hours labor repacking bearings? or something like that
If you can't do the brake job yourself then I would recommend that you take your LX to you local Lexus dealer. Those "brake specialists" with their $99.95 specials are the biggest scams around nowadays. They're on every street corner in San Diego and I have never heard anyone get out of their for the $99.95 special. Good grief, Jiffy Lube is just as bad with their high sales pressure tactics. Seems every car that goes into one of those places needs a $69.95 tranny flush....Sorry, I got off on a tangent.
Just take it home to Lexus and have the techs operate on your truck and do the job right the 1st time.
I just changed the pads on all 4 corners last week on my neighbors lx470. The parts were like 150.00 at Toyota. They are the same part # as the Land cruiser. Just less money. It took me about 1 hour to do all the work.
