Default BG Oil Additive added?

Did oil change at a Toyota dealer. They added BG oil additive for no charge. (I didn't know until afterwards.) Why would they do this? Should I be worried or upset?

I would ask them why they did something not required or recommended by Lexus and not requested by you. BG doesn't make bad stuff, but I am not a fan of adding anything to my oil not put there by the original manufacturer.

While not likely to hurt anything, It still isn't necessary on a modern engine. If they charged you extra for it, I would have had an issue with it.

I was not charged extra, but it was included in the price. I learned that dealers get cash back from the makers of this product, so that is there incentive to use it. I promptly asked for a full refund (I didn't trust them anymore) and went to another location where I had it done (correctly) again.

The BG additive ain't gonna hurt anything but isn't needed as well - be lucky it's not Lucas.

Many dealerships have contracts in place with BG, MOC and Wynn's to sell their "maintenance programs" and chemicals. The stuff is cheap on a wholesale basis but it's a profit generator on the service menu.

While I don't think that was necessary (or worth your trouble), I do understand why you did it, and from that point of view, agree with the principle. I am glad that they obliged and hopefully they will ask customers in the future if they want that additive. Were it me, I simply would have told them that because they didn't ask me I wanted a refund, and when I got that, I would have told them I would not be returning to their location. But I honestly see no reason not to run the oil for the service interval as long as the oil level was correct and the oil was clean.
