I had my "check engine light come on for the last month" and since it was getting near my registration renewal due date, I took my 95'ES300 to my local shop to check the trouble code and complete my smog check while I was there.
The diagostic code showed, "P0170" - Fuel Trim Malfunction in Bank#1
Can anyone tell me what this code means and what specific part needs replacing?
The repair shop reset the code to see if smog check will pass and it did't.
On the test report, everything passed fine except "HC (PPM) at 15mph where maximum allowed was 83 and my car measured 120.
Could it be the particular error code metioned above that is causing my smog to fail.
Any possible assistance will be greatly appreciated. I have 30 days to retest at no charge and would like to repair the current condition at the least amout of cost. Please help!!!
I have gotten that code on my 99 RX, and it was due to either the air filter being clogged or my gas cap loose (very common). Throw some Techron into your gas tank for a few days, then see if the smog problem clears up. Another thing I know has failed people in smog checks down here is not changing the spark plugs.
i *almost* failed smog in my 95ES300. I don't have the printout w/ me, but i think out of the 3 categories it measures, it was the last one. jewelberry, is that part you failed the 3rd item measured?
