Hi fellas.....I just hit 90,000 on my 98 GS 300.....I wanted to know what is exactly included the 90K Service....I know that the Timing belt needs changing now....but what else???? I've changed the differential fluid 4 mos. ago and now just wondering what else needs to be be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Here is a list of things done at 90,000 mile service by my Lexus dealer:
Replace engine oil and filter, air filter, A/T fluid, the differential oil, brake fluid, engine coolant, micron HVAC cabin filter, balance wheels and tires, rotate tires, check wheel alignment and adjust as necessary, inspect brakes, steering linkages, drive shaft boots, body and chassis nuts and bolts, exhaust pipes and moutings, rack and piston assembly for leakage, fuel lines and connectors and fuel tank, vapor vent system hoses, fuel tank band and fuel tank cap gasket.

Timing belt and water pump will add $850 to the total cost.

Sorry, I'm brand new here and trying to learn my way around. I've got all sorts of questions but I'm reading through the forums first...anyway, reading this 90k service thread I was curious about the timing belt/water pump change. I bought my car last August (8/02), it's a '95 ES 300 and when I hit the 90k mark this February it was just the basic fluid overhaul/change out. The timing belt change wasn't/isn't scheduled until 120k. Is this right? Did they change the timing belt to 90k for newer models or what?

My Lexus dealer says to change timing belt at 120K.

Some people here recommend to change at 90K. Others don't think it needs to be changed on a set schedule as long as you're good about inspecting it. Have read quite a few reports of 140K and still going on the original timing belt.

My Lexus owner's manual says to inspect timing belt at 90K. No mention of having to change it.

Default timing belt

I was always told by my father change the belt at 60k and thats what i did on my 99GS400 with 69k ,The belt had little minor crack in it ,it could last it another 20k or so miles.

I hope your vehicle had more than one minor crack in it. New timing belts will begin their initial "cracking" within months of installing it. It's when there's multiple "minor cracks" that you need to swap it out. That's an expensive service to be done everytime you see a crack in it.

-I'm editing my message because I just saw that you live in NY where the whether is even more extreme than what we have to deal with here in Austin, TX. With those cold winters you all have and heat waves during the summer, you were probably wise to swap it out.-

Seems that some dealers modify the maintenance schedule shown in the manuals to even out the costs.

The manual has all recommeneded mainenance but you can do some yourself like change the air filer or change the oil.
